{"id":513451,"date":"2026-01-13T16:23:15","date_gmt":"2026-01-13T16:23:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/513451\/"},"modified":"2026-01-13T16:23:15","modified_gmt":"2026-01-13T16:23:15","slug":"gray-whale-passes-between-surfers-and-shore-off-southern-california","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/513451\/","title":{"rendered":"Gray whale passes between surfers and shore off Southern California"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jan. 10, 2026, 4:24 p.m. ET<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">A photographer on Saturday captured aerial footage showing a gray whale passing between surfers and the shoreline in the South Bay region of Los Angeles County.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Dominik Granados stated via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DTVw5EmD1Cr\/\" data-t-l=\":b|z|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Instagram<\/a>: \u201cWe got the report of a whale milling at 40th St. [in Manhattan Beach] and got down quick enough to not miss it.\u00a0We spotted it just south of MB pier and [the whale] passed through north Hermosa [Beach] super shallow until it veered out at Hermosa pier.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"gnt_em_img_i\" style=\"height:396px\" fetchpriority=\"high\" data-g-r=\"lazy\" data-gl-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/88121230007-gray-whale-surprise.jpeg\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Gray whale greets surfers.\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Gray whales are currently migrating from feeding grounds off Alaska to nursing and calving regions along Mexico\u2019s Baja California Peninsula.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\"><a href=\"http:\/\/ftw.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/outdoors\/2026\/01\/10\/deep-blue-largest-great-white-shark-back-in-spotlight\/88118027007\/\" data-t-l=\":b|e|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ALSO: Deep Blue, largest great white shark ever documented, back in spotlight<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">It\u2019s not rare to spot gray whales from shore, but it\u2019s uncommon for them to be so close to the beach during their southbound migration.
