Despite the release of a new M5 version<\/a> this past fall, Apple’s Vision Pro headset <\/a>may be done less than two years after its debut. Reportedly, Apple had ended support for the device’s production, possibly suggesting the end of the mixed reality headset.<\/p>\n

According to Weibo user Fixed Focus Digital (translated)<\/a>, Apple has “essentially suspended support” for the Vision Pro’s production. The leaker added that it leaves the “future of the next generation uncertain.”<\/p>\n

It should be noted that this suspension of production may not mean the end of the Vision Pro as an Apple product, but it could signal a shift toward a second generation.<\/p>\n

This claim comes shortly after a report earlier in the month<\/a> that Apple had scaled back manufacturing and marketing for the Vision Pro. Apple allegedly cut its Vision Pro marketing budget by as much as 95%.<\/p>\n

At the time, it suggested that sales of the Vision Pro remained underwhelming.<\/p>\n

When the headset debuted in 2024, an introductory video, “Hello Apple Vision Pro,” was on the company’s YouTube channel. It has since been removed. We believe the promised Apple Intelligence features shown in the video are still missing, so the company dropped the clip.<\/p>\n

With a launch price of $3,499, it seems even the Apple name couldn’t salvage the headset’s reputation. Plus, the economy has worsened throughout 2025 between President Trump’s tariffs and rising prices across the board.<\/p>\n

Throughout 2025, rumors swirled that an Apple Vision Pro 2<\/a> was coming with new chips, a lighter weight, and potentially a price cut. It seems that version may have been replaced by the M5 version released in October, which was more of an iterative upgrade with the new chipset.<\/p>\n

At one point, Apple was reportedly developing a “Vision Air” headset <\/a>that would be much lighter and thinner, serving as more of an entry-level headset. That device wasn’t expected to launch until 2027, though it was supposed to cost much less.<\/p>\n

However, that rumor died on the vine as Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman claimed<\/a> that Apple dropped those plans in favor of smart glasses in the vein of Meta’s Ray-Ban<\/a> offerings.<\/p>\n

Apple’s Tim Cook has long been a proponent of Apple Glasses<\/a>, with the latest rumors<\/a> suggesting a pair of spectacles will debut in 2027.<\/p>\n

This year should be huge for smart glasses, with the potential launches of the rumored Samsung smart glasses<\/a>, Google’s Xreal Project Aura specs<\/a>, and a slew of other models.<\/p>\n
