However, if you happened to have been overpaid by the Social Security Administration (SSA), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/money\/2025\/06\/29\/social-security-overpayment-changes-july-2025\/84372927007\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">your check may soon be a bit smaller<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s because the SSA is expected in late July to begin withholding 50% of benefits for those who have been overpaid but have yet to begin repayments. There&#8217;s no public figure on how many recipients have been overpaid, but the SSA tried to reclaim overpayments from about 2 million people in the fiscal year that ended September 2023, according to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/kffhealthnews.org\/overpayment-outrage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">KFF and Cox Media Group<\/a>, based on data acquired in a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/kffhealthnews.org\/news\/article\/social-security-overpayments-underestimate-kijakazi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Freedom of Information Act request<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/money\/2025\/06\/18\/social-security-shortfall-benefits-retirement\/84261121007\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/money\/2025\/06\/18\/social-security-shortfall-benefits-retirement\/84261121007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Social Security<\/a>\u00a0benefits \u2013 mostly for those who are older or retired \u2013 typically are paid on Wednesdays. Your payment date depends on your birthdate: if it falls between the first and 10th days of the month, you are issued payments on the second Wednesday of the month (this month that&#8217;s July 9), according to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/pubs\/EN-05-10031-2025.pdf?ftag=MSFd61514f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Social Security Administration\u2019s calendar<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"related-link\"><strong style=\"margin-right:3px\">How to cancel that subscription: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/money\/2025\/06\/22\/how-to-cancel-subscription-trends\/84284851007\/\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Why more Americans are dumping monthly payments<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The rest of payments go out on subsequent Wednesdays, with recipients born between the 11th and 20th getting paid on the third Wednesday (July 16), and those born after the 20th of the month getting payments on the fourth Wednesday of the month (July 23), according to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/pubs\/EN-05-10031-2025.pdf?ftag=MSFd61514f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">SSA calendar<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Social Security recipients who began getting benefits before May 1997 are paid on the 3rd of the month. The same goes for recipients who also get <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/money\/2025\/06\/28\/ssi-payment-check-schedule-july-2025\/84373312007\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">SSI payments.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Social Security payment schedule for July<\/p>\n<p>The Social Security Administration\u2019s yearly distribution schedules for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/pubs\/EN-05-10031-2025.pdf?ftag=MSFd61514f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">2025<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/pubs\/EN-05-10031-2026.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">2026<\/a>\u00a0are available online, should you want to check the calendar for budgeting purposes.<\/p>\n<p>Regular Social Security retirement benefits for the month of July will be sent out on the SSA\u2019s usual schedule:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Wednesday, July 9:<\/strong>\u00a0Birth dates between the first and 10th of the month.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Wednesday, July 16:<\/strong>\u00a0Birth dates between the 11th and 20th of the month.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Wednesday, July 23:<\/strong>\u00a0Birth dates between the 21st and 31st of the month.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>SSI payment schedule for July, rest of 2025<\/p>\n<p>Recipients of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/money\/2025\/05\/28\/ssi-payment-check-schedule-june\/83843176007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Supplemental Security Income checks<\/a>\u00a0will be issued payments on the first business day of the month, which is Tuesday, July 1. SSI checks will be sent out on the following dates in 2025, according to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/pubs\/EN-05-10031-2025.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">the SSA calendar<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Tuesday, July 1, 2025 (Check for July 2025)<\/li>\n<li>Friday, Aug. 1, 2025 (Check for August 2025)<\/li>\n<li>Friday, Aug. 29, 2025 (Check for September 2025)<\/li>\n<li>Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2025 (Check for October 2025)<\/li>\n<li>Friday, Oct. 31, 2025 (Check for November 2025)<\/li>\n<li>Monday, Dec. 1, 2025 (Check for December 2025)<\/li>\n<li>Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2025 (Check for January 2026)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>What is SSI?<\/p>\n<p>Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is a benefit program for persons with limited income or resources, those aged 65 or older, and those who are blind or have a qualifying disability. Children with a qualifying disability are also eligible, according to the SSA\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/faq.ssa.gov\/en-us\/Topic\/article\/KA-02274\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">website<\/a>.Adults who qualify for SSI typically do not have\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/ssi\/eligibility\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">monthly wages above $2,019<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Those who may be eligible for SSI can begin the application process\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/apply\/ssi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">online<\/a>, in person at your local\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/locator\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Social Security office<\/a>, or by calling 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. local time during the work week.<\/p>\n<p>Mike Snider is a reporter on USA TODAY\u2019s Trending team.
