{"id":514535,"date":"2026-01-14T02:56:11","date_gmt":"2026-01-14T02:56:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/514535\/"},"modified":"2026-01-14T02:56:11","modified_gmt":"2026-01-14T02:56:11","slug":"stock-market-today-live-updates-134","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/514535\/","title":{"rendered":"Stock market today: Live updates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A trader works on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange. <\/p>\n<p>NYSE<\/p>\n<p>Stock futures were little changed Tuesday night after the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.SPX\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">S&amp;P 500<\/a>\u00a0pulled back from record levels seen earlier in the week. <\/p>\n<p>Futures tied to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@DJ.1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dow Jones Industrial Average<\/a> shed 39 points, or nearly 0.1%. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@SP.1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">S&amp;P 500 futures<\/a> were marginally lower, while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@ND.1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nasdaq 100 futures<\/a> inched up less than 0.1%.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, investors can expect Bank of America, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/WFC\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wells Fargo<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/C\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Citigroup<\/a> to report their quarterly earnings results before market open. More inflation data is also on the docket, as December&#8217;s producer price index report will be released before the opening bell. <\/p>\n<p>In Tuesday&#8217;s regular trading session, the major averages closed lower. The S&amp;P 500 fell 0.2%, while the 30-stock <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.DJI\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dow<\/a> lost nearly 400 points, or 0.8%. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.IXIC\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nasdaq Composite<\/a>\u00a0shed 0.1%.<\/p>\n<p>Financials were the worst-performing group of the broad-market index. Shares of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/JPM\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">JPMorgan Chase<\/a> tumbled more than 4% after fourth-quarter investment banking fees appeared to disappoint. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/GS\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Goldman Sachs<\/a> and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/BAC\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bank of America<\/a> fell in sympathy.<\/p>\n<p>Oil prices also jumped more than 2% Tuesday after President Donald Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/01\/13\/oil-prices-today-trump-iran-protests.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">canceled meetings<\/a> with Iranian officials and told protesters that &#8220;help is on its way.&#8221; Energy stocks rallied, and the sector gained 1.5%.<\/p>\n<p>Trump&#8217;s recent call for a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/01\/10\/trump-calls-for-one-year-cap-on-credit-card-interest-rates-at-10percent.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">one-year 10% cap<\/a>\u00a0on credit card interest rates has dragged down financial names, with<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/MA\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Mastercard<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/V\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Visa<\/a>\u00a0ending Tuesday&#8217;s session in the red. Traders have been grappling with a volley of demands from the president, including Trump&#8217;s declaration that he<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/01\/07\/trump-dividends-stock-buybacks-defense-companies.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> &#8220;will not permit&#8221; dividends or stock buybacks for defense companies<\/a> and that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/01\/07\/trump-housing-affordability.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">U.S. should bar large institutional investors<\/a> from buying single-family homes. <\/p>\n<p>Trump&#8217;s attacks on Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/01\/13\/trump-powell-fed-dimon-pirro-doj.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">continued on Tuesday<\/a> amid growing worries over the central bank&#8217;s independence as the Justice Department conducts <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/01\/12\/fed-jerome-powell-criminal-probe-nyt.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a criminal investigation into<\/a> the Fed&#8217;s leader. <\/p>\n<p>Stock prices may be starting to reflect the potential impact of Trump&#8217;s demands, according to Paul Meeks, head of technology research at Freedom Capital Markets. &#8220;This is a hangover from the threat to Fed Chair Powell and bank earnings, which are being hit by companies talking about capping credit rates at 10% &#8230; It&#8217;s just unnecessary anxiety,&#8221; he said. <\/p>\n<p>Meeks, a veteran tech analyst, added that Tuesday&#8217;s drawdown will likely bring in &#8220;some good buying opportunities&#8221; ahead of upcoming announcements from hyperscalers about their 2026 guidance and artificial intelligence capital expenditure plans. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A trader works on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange.
