Comeaux is seen during a news conference regarding the Operation Holiday Heat, Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2026, in Dallas. <\/p>\n<p>Chitose Suzuki \/ Staff Photographer<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Board members who spoke after Comeaux\u2019s remarks thanked the chief for coming to the meeting to speak but expressed disappointment with the outcome. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Brandon Friedman, the District 14 appointee, said some degree of disclosure was warranted because of the \u201cextraordinary\u201d circumstances resulting from the Trump administration\u2019s push for deportations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">\u201cThis is not something that has ever happened before with these [federal] agencies,\u201d Friedman said. \u201cWhile I think Chief Comeaux\u2019s remarks make sense under normal circumstances, I don\u2019t feel safer based on the videos I\u2019m seeing on TV and on the internet of the way the federal government is treating people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">During the meeting, Comeaux explained that some human trafficking and prostitution cases handled with federal authorities can involve immigration issues, though he said those elements are not the department\u2019s focus. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">The chief has also described the department\u2019s interactions with immigration officials as limited, saying officers called to immigration-related scenes are typically there to maintain safety or a perimeter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Brian Bah, the District 5 appointee, suggested the board and police continue discussions on whether the information could be shared in a way that balances officer safety and transparency \u2014 for example, by redacting certain details or releasing only \u201chigh-level\u201d summaries.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">\u201cWe\u2019re just asking for increased transparency to help the citizens trust DPD more,\u201d Bah said,&#8221; so it\u2019s something we should delve into in our response.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">The disclosure debate extends ongoing City Hall discussions over immigration enforcement. Last fall, the City Council considered whether the city should join the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/immigration\/2025\/11\/25\/here-are-the-north-texas-law-enforcement-agencies-that-have-agreements-with-ice\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">federal 287(g) program<\/a>, which would allow local officers to carry out certain immigration-enforcement functions.
