In fact, I can\u2019t get anywhere close to sitting cross-legged. My knees are so comically far from the floor that I have to lean back and support myself with my hands, and people assume I\u2019m joking about how inflexible I am. Unfortunately, I\u2019m not.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-seasonal\" data-url=\"\" href=\"\" target=\"_blank\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"ce58f467-70ac-4f07-ab4d-d2603cd9a7bf-2\">When I revealed this lack of flexibility to my physio during an appointment about a different issue, they felt obliged to try and help, and recommended I do the windshield wiper stretch every day to try and open up my hips \u2014 my hips were actually too tight for the<a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tomsguide.com\/wellness\/fitness\/i-did-the-90-90-hip-stretch-for-a-week-and-my-mobility-improved-in-a-way-i-didnt-expect\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.tomsguide.com\/wellness\/fitness\/i-did-the-90-90-hip-stretch-for-a-week-and-my-mobility-improved-in-a-way-i-didnt-expect\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> 90\/90 stretch<\/a>, which is one I aim to build up to.<\/p>\n<p>You may like<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve been doing the windshield wiper exercise every day since, and from what I can tell, it\u2019s helping. You can also sit if you prefer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p id=\"f9107b37-1ba9-48a9-86be-435788c2ea98\">When I do the stretch, the opposite hip tends to rise off the floor because of how tight my hips are in general. So I gently push it back down to deepen the stretch. approachable stretch that even those, like myself, with the tightest of hips, can do to try and <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" rel=\"noopener\">boost mobility<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I feel like after doing the stretch every day for a week, a little progress has been made in reducing my hip tightness, and it\u2019s an easy stretch to do, so it\u2019s not hard to make time for it each day.<\/p>\n<p>Along with being a good stretch to do in general, it\u2019s also great for warm-ups before your workouts or runs \u2014 I\u2019m a keen runner, and it\u2019s one I\u2019ll add to my routine to do before interval sessions, and tempo runs in particular.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019d rather do a dynamic stretch than a static one, which is usually a good idea when warming up for a workout in particular, you can keep driving your knees from side to side, rather than holding on each side.<\/p>\n<p>You can make the move a little more challenging by sitting up, getting toward the position for the <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\"
