{"id":515516,"date":"2026-01-14T12:50:15","date_gmt":"2026-01-14T12:50:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/515516\/"},"modified":"2026-01-14T12:50:15","modified_gmt":"2026-01-14T12:50:15","slug":"snohetta-designs-radiating-galleries-for-beijing-art-museum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/515516\/","title":{"rendered":"Sn\u00f8hetta designs radiating galleries for Beijing Art Museum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Architecture studio\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/snohetta\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sn\u00f8hetta<\/a> has revealed its design for Beijing Art Museum in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/china\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">China<\/a>, which will feature a series of rectangular volumes radiating around a circular <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/atriums\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">atrium<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Designed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.snohetta.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sn\u00f8hetta<\/a> in collaboration with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biad.com.cn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Beijing Institute of Architectural Design<\/a> (BIAD), the project broke ground on 31 December above a metro line in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/beijing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Beijing<\/a>&#8216;s Tongzhou district.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2286503 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/beijing-art-museum-snohetta_dezeen_2364_col_1-852x1002.jpg\" alt=\"Beijing Art Museum by Sn\u00f8hetta\" width=\"2010\" height=\"2364\"  \/>The museum is being developed by Sn\u00f8hetta with Beijing Institute of Architectural Design<\/p>\n<p>Set to contain a range of artworks, the museum is hoped to become a cultural hub for the local community and boost building development in the area.<\/p>\n<p>Rectangular volumes with glazed end facades will radiate out from a central atrium, which will feature a curved staircase connecting the galleries.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2286505 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/beijing-art-museum-snohetta_dezeen_2364_col_3-852x852.jpg\" alt=\"Atrium at Beijing Art Museum by Sn\u00f8hetta\" width=\"2364\" height=\"2364\"  \/>Gallery spaces will be organised around a circular atrium<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Its sculptural massing radiates outwards from a central core, while lens-like, rippled facades dissolve boundaries between building and landscape, establishing a dynamic public realm that engages the local community,&#8221; said Sn\u00f8hetta.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;At the heart of the museum lies a kaleidoscopic atrium that acts as a gravitational pull, drawing various program elements inward,&#8221; it continued.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Galleries, storage, and support functions spiral around the atrium, extending into petal-like volumes that offer panoramic views of the surrounding context, juxtaposing the experience of looking out with a sense of being seen.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2024\/02\/26\/beijing-city-library-snohetta-china\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"191\" height=\"191\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/beijing-city-library-architecture-public-leisure-china-snohetta_dezeen_2364_sq3-191x191.jpg\" class=\"excludeLightbox wp-post-image\" alt=\"Beijing City Library by Sn\u00f8hetta\" decoding=\"async\" data-pin-nopin=\"true\"  \/><\/p>\n<p> Sn\u00f8hetta creates library to emulate feeling of &#8220;sitting under a tree&#8221;\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/a><\/p>\n<p>While providing access to galleries, the atrium will also incorporate what Sn\u00f8hetta described as &#8220;semi-open pockets&#8221; for use as exhibition areas and meeting spots.<\/p>\n<p>The radial design of the building will be continued in the landscape design, which will include water features and sculptures.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is not merely an adjunct but a spatial continuum, where architecture, landscape, and interior coalesce into a unified cultural tapestry,&#8221;
