And you know, we don\u2019t really need ice. And actually, I hate ice.\u2019 It just felt like, \u2018Oh, even that\u2019s just being too trivial.\u2019 That\u2019s what it felt like. This isn\u2019t even that anymore. It\u2019s hard to strike the right tone.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/nikki-glaser-red-dress.jpg\" alt=\"Nikki Glaser in red dress at Golden Globes\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\"\/> <\/p>\n<p>Nikki Glaser explained why she left political jokes out of the Golden Globes ceremony.\u00a0 (Rich Polk\/2026GG\/Penske Media via Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p>Glaser told Stern, 72, that comedy legend Steve Martin wrote a joke for her that mentioned President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/person\/donald-trump\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Donald Trump<\/a> but later asked her to scrap it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/entertainment\/golden-globes-host-nikki-glaser-names-one-hollywood-star-you-cannot-make-fun-of\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>GOLDEN GLOBES HOST NIKKI GLASER NAMES THE ONE HOLLYWOOD STAR &#8216;YOU CANNOT MAKE FUN OF&#8217;<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;[My writer] said, &#8216;Hey, Steve sent in a joke.&#8217; And he read it to me,&#8221; Glaser recalled. &#8220;And later on he said, &#8216;Steve said don&#8217;t do that. It&#8217;s not the right tone for the night.&#8217; And he was right.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;Trainwreck&#8221; actress explained that the axed joke referred to the renaming of Washington D.C.&#8217;s Kennedy Center to include Trump&#8217;s name. Last month, the Kennedy Center&#8217;s board of trustees unanimously decided to rename the building The Donald J. Trump and The John F. And here I&#8217;m at the Trump Beverly Hilton. It was something about that.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;And it was like, you just don&#8217;t wanna say that guy&#8217;s name,&#8221; she said. &#8220;I just don&#8217;t wanna give it space.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Glaser said she also nixed a joke about the nominees\u2019 demographics after deciding it was &#8220;too woke.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>She told Stern the joke was &#8220;Martin Short, Jeremy Allen White, Gary Oldman: these are three actors nominated tonight. It\u2019s insane. Yes, CBS News, America&#8217;s newest place to see BS news,&#8221; Glaser joked at the Golden Globes.<\/p>\n<p>Over the past year, CBS has experienced several controversies and new ownership that led to new leadership, which have some critics accusing the network of losing its credibility.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/newsletters?cmpid=fnfirstnl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR THE ENTERTAINMENT NEWSLETTER<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>CBS has faced backlash from some liberal commentators after its parent company, Paramount, reached a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/paramount-global-settles-trumps-lawsuit-against-cbs-news-over-60-minutes-interview\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$16 million settlement<\/a> with Trump and has been accused of acquiescing to the Trump administration through Paramount&#8217;s new CEO, David Ellison.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Ellison has focused on revitalizing CBS News since becoming CEO, installing The Free Press founder <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/bari-weiss-being-named-top-cbs-news-editor-causes-liberal-media-meltdown\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bari Weiss as editor-in-chief<\/a> in October.<\/p>\n<p> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/nikki-glaser-blue-background.jpg\" alt=\"Nikki Glaser next to Golden Globes statue \" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\"\/> <\/p>\n<p>The comedian did include jokes about the Epstein files and CBS&#8217; recent controversies.\u00a0 (Kevork Djansezian\/CBS via Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/entertainment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>LIKE WHAT YOU\u2019RE READING? CLICK HERE FOR MORE ENTERTAINMENT NEWS<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Several progressive commentators have also slammed Weiss for making significant decisions behind the scenes, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/cbs-bari-weiss-facing-mounting-backlash-from-liberal-critics-over-yanking-60-minutes-segment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pulling a &#8220;60 Minutes&#8221; segment<\/a> about allegations of abuses at the notorious El Salvador prison CECOT just hours before it was scheduled to air.<\/p>\n<p>After the Golden Globes aired, several critics pointed out that the ceremony was notably apolitical compared to recent years. Trump\u2019s name was not directly invoked by Glaser, presenters or winners during the award show&#8217;s broadcast.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/foxnews.onelink.me\/xLDS?pid=AppArticleLink&amp;af_dp=foxnewsaf%3A%2F%2F&amp;af_web_dp=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.foxnews.com%2Fapps-products\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Any political commentary was mostly relegated to red carpet interviews ahead of the ceremony, where both nominee <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/person\/mark-ruffalo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mark Ruffalo<\/a>, winner Jean Smart and presenter Wanda Sykes took the opportunity to share their thoughts on current affairs.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Ruffalo, Smart and Sykes were also among the celebrities who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/entertainment\/celebrity-anti-ice-pins-golden-globes-spark-mixed-reactions-online-after-renee-good-fatal-shooting\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wore pins with slogans<\/a> that said, &#8220;BE GOOD&#8221; and &#8220;ICE OUT.&#8221; The pins, which were also sported by Ariana Grande, Natasha Lyonne and others, were intended as a protest against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement days after the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good.<\/p>\n<p>Ashley Hume is an entertainment writer for Fox News Digital.
