Council Member Inna Vernikov is running for another term, hoping to once again win over voters in Brooklyn\u2019s District 48.<\/p>\n
The Ukrainian immigrant and attorney made history in 2021 when she flipped the seat, becoming one of the more outspoken voices on the New York City Council.<\/p>\n
Since then, she says she\u2019s worked closely with the community, resolving over 10,000 constituent cases during her time in office.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have a diverse community, and it will be my honor to keep fighting for them again for the next four years,\u201d Vernikov told News 12.<\/p>\n
Vernikov has been vocal on citywide issues, including her opposition to non-citizen voting in municipal elections and the city\u2019s handling of the migrant crisis.<\/p>\n
She pointed to a recent winter storm where she says migrant housing displaced schoolchildren in her district as an example of policy missteps.<\/p>\n
Closer to home, she says she helped push the Department of Transportation to finally repair the Ocean Avenue pedestrian bridge, a project she said her constituents had demanded for years.<\/p>\n
As election season heats up, Vernikov says her record of service and hands-on approach is what she hopes will carry her to victory again.<\/p>\n
