New Board of Directors Chair Fernando Dutra will receive the gavel from Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn Wednesday as part of Metro\u2019s annual \u201cState of the Agency\u201d address at Union Station.<\/p>\n
Dutra has been a member of the Board of Directors since 2021 and the Whittier City Council since 2012. He is president of Allwest Development Company and holds licenses for general building contractor and general engineering.<\/p>\n
The board chair serves a one-year term from July 1 to June 30. The position rotates annually among the mayor of Los Angeles, a member of the Board of Supervisors and a City Selection Committee member.<\/p>\n
Dutra, Hahn, Metro CEO Stephanie Wiggins and members of the agency\u2019s Youth Council will discuss the past year\u2019s accomplishments and outline priorities for the 2025-26 fiscal year. In May, Metro\u2019s Board of Directors approved an approximately $9.4 billion budget that prioritized funding in public safety and boosting the frequency of bus and rail service.<\/p>\n
Metro leaders are expected to discuss the following accomplishments:<\/p>\n
\u2014 Opening the LAX Metro Transit Center and the Rail-to-Rail Active Transportation Corridor in South Los Angeles;<\/p>\n
\u2014 Opening 21 miles of bus lanes;<\/p>\n
\u2014 Progress made on projects under construction such as the Metro A (Foothill) and D (Purple) Line extensions, the Southeast Gateway Line, the San Fernando Valley Line and the North San Fernando Valley Line;<\/p>\n
\u2014 Establishing a new public safety department, which will be led by former San Francisco Police Chief Bill Scott;<\/p>\n
\u2014 Implementation of several safety measures such as the expansion of the Tap-to-Exit and weapons detection systems, taller fare gates and the rollout of the Transit Watch 3.0 app;<\/p>\n
\u2014 Releasing the draft environmental impact report for the future Sepulveda Transit Corridor, which aims to connect the San Fernando Valley with West Los Angeles;<\/p>\n
\u2014 Achieving 30 consecutive months of ridership growth;<\/p>\n
\u2014 Expanding its bus lane enforcement pilot program; and<\/p>\n
