{"id":51821,"date":"2025-07-09T16:23:10","date_gmt":"2025-07-09T16:23:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/51821\/"},"modified":"2025-07-09T16:23:10","modified_gmt":"2025-07-09T16:23:10","slug":"chiney-ogwumike-talks-espn-nba-wnba-and-peacock-series-the-w","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/51821\/","title":{"rendered":"Chiney Ogwumike Talks ESPN, NBA, WNBA and Peacock Series &#8216;The W&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAs <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/chiney-ogwumike\/\" id=\"auto-tag_chiney-ogwumike\" data-tag=\"chiney-ogwumike\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chiney Ogwumike<\/a> knows all too well from her days as a WNBA star player, a little momentum can go a long way. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThat\u2019s why the athlete-turned-<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/espn\/\" id=\"auto-tag_espn\" data-tag=\"espn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ESPN<\/a> on-air analyst for both men\u2019s and women\u2019s pro and collegiate hoops is busier than ever this summer, from the recent debut of a new Disney+ talker about sports from a female perspective that she co-hosts, \u201cVibe Check,\u201d to working as a producer on a scripted series based on her own life for Peacock.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tBut on the latest episode of the Variety podcast \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/strictly-business\/\" id=\"auto-tag_strictly-business\" data-tag=\"strictly-business\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Strictly Business<\/a>,\u201d she says none of it would be possible without the emergence of women\u2019s basketball as a full-fledged media phenomenon \u2014 a development she herself admits took her by surprise.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t<strong>Listen to the podcast here: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cI am completely astonished to be in the present moment right now,\u201d she said. \u201cAnybody that picked up a ball, probably around my age or prior, did not expect for it to happen the way it did currently. And so it\u2019s been amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tOgwumike also credits the surge in the WNBA\u2019s popularity with paving the way for \u201cThe W,\u201d a comedy series set in a fictional version of the women\u2019s hoops world based on her own misadventures with her real-life business partner, Allison Galer.  It\u2019s her hope that \u201cW\u201d is just the first of more programming she hopes to produce as she learns the ropes of a very different game: Hollywood. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cI have a vision, yes, and we have a prospective slate,\u201d she said. \u201cWe have another concept that we\u2019re very excited about.
