{"id":518557,"date":"2026-01-15T18:52:17","date_gmt":"2026-01-15T18:52:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/518557\/"},"modified":"2026-01-15T18:52:17","modified_gmt":"2026-01-15T18:52:17","slug":"how-low-will-temperatures-go-nbc-new-york","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/518557\/","title":{"rendered":"How low will temperatures go? \u2013 NBC New York"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An eight-day stretch of mild weather came to an abrupt end Thursday, as arctic air spilled into the tri-state behind a cold front.\u00a0 The wintry chill will be with us through next week, so get your warmest wardrobe ready.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/image_62b792.png\" loading=\"lazy\"   alt=\" \"\/><\/p>\n<p>Not only is cold air setting up shop, but a stiff breeze is delivering a biting wind chill.\u00a0 By Friday morning, wind chill values will be in the teens around the New York City metro area.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/image_36c545.png\" loading=\"lazy\"   alt=\" \"\/><\/p>\n<p>In outlying areas, especially north of the city, wake-up wind chills on Friday will be in single digits \u2013 or below zero in some higher elevations of the Catskills and the Poconos.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/image_815d83.png\" loading=\"lazy\"   alt=\" \"\/><\/p>\n<p>Throughout the day, the wind will be strong enough to create a wind chill about 10 degrees below the actual air temperature.\u00a0Make use of your gloves, hats, ear muffs and scarves to minimize your exposed skin and stay as warm as possible while you\u2019re outside.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/image_6b0b59.png\" loading=\"lazy\"   alt=\" \"\/><\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ll get a brief bump in temperatures on Saturday \u2013 topping out with a seasonable 40-degree afternoon \u2013 before another rush of arctic air settles in on Sunday.\u00a0Overall, Martin Luther King, Jr, weekend will be a cold one.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ll have an opportunity for a light rain\/snow mix on Saturday and a few flurries Sunday, but no major weather systems will impact the tri-state area this weekend.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/image_bc59f2.png\" loading=\"lazy\"   alt=\" \"\/><\/p>\n<p>The coldest days of our cold snap will come on Tuesday and Wednesday, with afternoon temperatures generally holding in the 20s.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/image_8076ec.png\" loading=\"lazy\"   alt=\" \"\/><\/p>\n<p>New York City\u2019s coldest temperature recorded so far this winter is 19 degrees.\u00a0 We should beat that on Tuesday and Wednesday morning, when temperatures are forecast to be 16 and 18 degrees, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/image_bc4181.png\" loading=\"lazy\"   alt=\" \"\/><\/p>\n<p>This latest cold snap comes amid a much colder-than-normal winter so far for New York City. Temperatures have averaged close to three degrees below normal this season.
