Speaking in Jacksonville, Gov. Ron DeSantis<\/strong><\/a> offered his first comments on an official in Mayor Donna Deegan\u2019s<\/strong><\/a> administration who used city resources to warn illegal immigrants about immigration policing and advise them on how to avoid apprehension.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know you had that one woman in the city of Jacksonville government putting out information. Look, that\u2019s not the way we roll here in the state of Florida. You know, we\u2019re going to respect law enforcement, respect the rule of law,\u201d DeSantis said at the Mayo Clinic<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Yanira Cardona<\/strong><\/a>, the city\u2019s Hispanic Outreach Coordinator, said early Wednesday that people who are taken in should \u201ccomply,\u201d but they should have a plan.<\/p>\n

Cardona currently is on administrative leave while the Mayor\u2019s Office assesses the matter.<\/p>\n

\u201cICE is out and about,\u201d Cardona said. \u201cThey are doing speed traps. They are, they\u2019ve been seen on Emerson, on Beach Boulevard, on Atlantic and on the highway. They are targeting, literally, they\u2019re targeting any lawn care companies, any AC company construction vans. They\u2019re literally stopping them just to make sure that they have their paperwork.\u201d<\/p>\n

DeSantis also promised there would be \u201cconsequences\u201d for Jennifer Cruz<\/strong><\/a>, a woman accused of assaulting U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers while they conducted their duties.<\/p>\n

\u201cI do know there was a woman who came out and assaulted one of our troopers. Let me just tell you guys, this is not Minneapolis. That is not going to end well for you in Florida,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

DeSantis said immigration police \u201chave a right to be discharging their duties.\u201d<\/p>\n
