Here\u2019s how to apply"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sidewalk vendors can now apply to receive a free, health-code-compliant food vending cart through a new program launched in a partnership between the county and the city of Los Angeles.<\/p>\n<p>Who can apply<\/p>\n<p>To receive a cart, applicants must be at least 18 years old, live in LA County, be self-employed as a sidewalk vendor, and earn less than $75,000 annually from vending, <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/opportunity.lacounty.gov\/sidewalkvendingcartrelease\/#:~:text=The%20ordinance%20established%20a%20formal,and%20complete%20the%20permitting%20process.\" target=\"_blank\" data-cms-ai=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">according to a news release<\/a>. This includes obtaining the <a class=\"Link\" href=\"http:\/\/publichealth.lacounty.gov\/eh\/business\/compact-mobile-food-operation.htm\" target=\"_blank\" data-cms-ai=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Compact Mobile Food Operation<\/a> (CMFO) certificate from the LA County Department of Public Health and any <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/opportunity.lacounty.gov\/how-we-help\/sidewalk-vending-program\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-cms-ai=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Sidewalk Vending Registration Certifications<\/a> or permits required to comply with the county and city sidewalk vending programs.<\/p>\n<p>Applications will be selected by lottery, will be reviewed on a monthly basis, and will be prioritized based on \u201ccompliance readiness.\u201d Priority will also be given to those who are based in the county\u2019s \u201chighest-need areas,\u201d as according to the <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/experience.arcgis.com\/experience\/9d7a43397ea84ab98a534be5b5376fba\" target=\"_blank\" data-cms-ai=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">county equity explorer map<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Eligible applicants will be connected to partner organizations like Inclusive Action for the City to help navigate the permitting process and to provide business business support and language assistance.<\/p>\n<p>What kind of carts?<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DTbJuoXioJ2\/?img_index=2\" target=\"_blank\" data-cms-ai=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Carts<\/a> offered through the program include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Integrated grill carts for precooked meat for tacos, hot dogs, and hamburgers that are assembled on a cart<\/li>\n<li>Hot-holding carts for pre-portioned cooked tamales, corn, quesadillas, gyros, pupusas<\/li>\n<li>Cut fruit carts for fruits, bionicos, and acai bowls<\/li>\n<li>Cold-hold ice cream carts that store prepackaged ice cream items<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Currently, the county and city have 50 hot-holding and 30 cold-holding carts for the first round of awards with 40 integrated grill carts underway.<\/p>\n<p>More about the program<\/p>\n<p>The launch of the <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/opportunity.lacounty.gov\/sidewalkvendingcarts\/?utm_content=&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_name=&amp;utm_source=govdelivery&amp;utm_term=\" target=\"_blank\" data-cms-ai=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Sidewalk Vending Cart Program\u00a0<\/a>\u2013 which invests $2.8 million in more than 280 carts \u2013 follows the passage of state legislation that <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/thelalocal.org\/public-safety\/gov-brown-signs-law-decriminalizing-street-vendors\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-cms-ai=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">decriminalized street vendors<\/a> and that <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/lataco.com\/sb-972-pop-up\" target=\"_blank\" data-cms-ai=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">streamlined the permitting process<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe program aims to help vendors meet new legal requirements, overcome financial barriers to formalization, and operate safely and legally in their communities,\u201d according to the news release.<\/p>\n<p>Los Angeles County Board Chair Hilda Solis said the program can help ensure a \u201cpermitted pathway\u201d toward entrepreneurship.<br \/>\u201cMany vendors are navigating increasingly difficult and uncertain times due to cruel federal immigration actions, and we know vendors play an essential role in the economic and cultural vitality of Los Angeles County,\u201d Solis said in a statement. \u201cThis is more than a program \u2014 this is a chance to support small business growth, economic stability, and even generational wealth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>
