{"id":520637,"date":"2026-01-16T15:20:13","date_gmt":"2026-01-16T15:20:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/520637\/"},"modified":"2026-01-16T15:20:13","modified_gmt":"2026-01-16T15:20:13","slug":"nyc-nurses-strike-negotiations-to-resume-on-day-5-of-picketing-outside-major-hospitals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/520637\/","title":{"rendered":"NYC nurses strike negotiations to resume on Day 5 of picketing outside major hospitals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Negotiators for major New York City hospital systems and the state nurses union will return to the bargaining table Friday as the city&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/newyork\/news\/nyc-nurses-strike-day-3\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">largest nurses strike<\/a> enters its fifth day.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Montefiore and Mount Sinai Health are expected to hold bargaining sessions with the New York State Nurses Association for the first time <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/newyork\/news\/nurses-strike-new-york-city-hospitals\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">since the strike started<\/a>, but NewYork-Presbyterian is not expected to meet today.<\/p>\n<p>A late-night bargaining session\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>NYSNA and NewYork-Presbyterian <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/newyork\/news\/nyc-nurses-strike-new-york-presbyterian-negotiations\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">met with a mediator for hours last night<\/a>, marking the very first round of negotiations since <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/newyork\/news\/nurses-strike-nyc-nysna\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">roughly 15,000 nurses<\/a> started picketing Monday, but they failed to make enough progress to reach a deal.<\/p>\n<p>The hospital said the late-night discussions focused on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/newyork\/news\/why-are-nyc-nurses-on-strike-nysna-negotiations\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">staffing<\/a> and that NYSNA&#8217;s proposals remain unreasonable, adding future meetings will be scheduled through a mediator.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>      <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/ap26014602313018.jpg#.jpeg\" alt=\"NYC Nursing Strike \" height=\"413\" width=\"620\" class=\" lazyload\"  loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>                  Striking nurses demonstrate outside Mt. Sinai Hospital on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2026.<\/p>\n<p>                Richard Drew \/ AP<\/p>\n<p>The striking nurses have been getting support from other city unions, including the Uniformed Firefighters Association, which represents FDNY members, who joined picket lines Thursday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>5 hospitals involved in negotiations<\/p>\n<p>NYSNA has been accusing the three hospital systems of refusing to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/newyork\/news\/why-are-nyc-nurses-on-strike-nysna-negotiations\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">improve staffing levels, health care benefits and workplace safety<\/a>\u00a0at five hospitals:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Mount Sinai Hospital, Manhattan<\/li>\n<li>Mount Sinai Morningside, Manhattan<\/li>\n<li>Mount Sinai West, Manhattan\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>NewYork-Presbyterian, Manhattan<\/li>\n<li>Montefiore Einstein, the Bronx.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Montefiore said it has rolled out several key programs to keep nurses safe at work, including widespread deployment of weapons detection capabilities, paying for round-the-clock armed NYPD members and issuing nurses wearable panic buttons.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>NewYork-Presbyterian also said it is committed to safe staffing and added that the hospital has the best staffing ratios in the city. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mount Sinai CEO accuses union of bullying and intimidation<\/p>\n<p>Mount Sinai Health System said in a statement the union&#8217;s proposals &#8220;would cost $1.6 billion over three years just at The Mount Sinai Hospital, raising average nurse pay to close to $250,000.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This hospital makes a good profit off of its patients. It should actually take care of the people that&#8217;s taking care of its patients,&#8221; said Michel Ng, a nurse a Mount Sinai West.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Brendan Carr, CEO of Mount Sinai Health, accused the nurses union of harassing and intimidating nurses who are not participating in the strike.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Bullying, intimidating and threatening devalues nurses, undermines our culture and is not consistent with our values at Mount Sinai.
