(Image from video taken by Adrian Childress)<\/p>\n<p>An ICE officer handcuffed a volunteer filming detentions yesterday in a San Diego immigration courtroom, alleging that she pushed an officer.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Footage taken by <a href=\"https:\/\/timesofsandiego.com\/life\/2025\/07\/03\/san-diego-community-bears-witness-as-ice-continues-courtroom-arrests\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">volunteers<\/a> and which can be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.10news.com\/news\/local-news\/san-diego-news\/video-legal-observer-handcuffed-by-ice-in-hallway-of-federal-courthouse#google_vignette\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">viewed here<\/a> shows ICE officers detaining an individual after their court hearing. <\/p>\n<p>They soon begin arguing about whether or not the volunteer \u2014 who is a 71 year old woman \u2014 pushed one of the officers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>ICE said the volunteer, Barbara Stone, pushed an officer. Volunteers say the officer initiated contact.<\/p>\n<p>It appears that an argument between the officer who was allegedly pushed and Stone ensued moments prior to them being face-to-face. The footage does not clearly depict the alleged altercation, but it does show Stone standing near the wall, filming.<\/p>\n<p>A few minutes later, Stone exited the floor when several agents followed after her in the stairwell.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStep out,\u201d said one of the officers to volunteers filming in the hallway. \u201cShe\u2019s under arrest.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Volunteers present at the courthouse on July 8 said that Stone was detained for more than eight hours. They said that that officers have yet to return her phone to her.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dhs.gov\/federal-protective-service\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Department of Homeland Security\u2019s Federal Protective Service<\/a> has not yet responded to a request for comment.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The arrest comes amid escalating tensions between ICE officers and volunteers. In late June, one volunteer was similarly confronted by officers over allegations that he took photos of an officer\u2019s phone.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And throughout the last month, Times of San Diego has witnessed officers mocking volunteers, telling them to \u201cget (their) cameras ready\u201d moments prior to arresting individuals exiting their court hearings.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>No charges have yet been announced against Stone, volunteers said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Federal law enforcement blocks reporters as they arrest a courthouse observer.
