A Houston congressional district has been without representation for nearly a year. Now, the runoff election is approaching.<\/p>\n

HOUSTON \u2014 Voters in Houston’s 18th Congressional District will soon choose their new representative in a runoff election<\/a> between former Harris County Attorney Christian Menefee and former Houston City Councilmember Amanda Edwards. The district has been without representation since the death of Sylvester Turner<\/a> in March of last year.<\/p>\n

Edwards raised concerns Friday about voter confusion surrounding the runoff, citing the\u00a0redistricting battle<\/a> and the unusual timing of the election. The special election to fill the seat took place last year, but the runoff is scheduled for this year.<\/p>\n

“Now you have a situation where people aren’t talking about it, they’re confused by it, and they don’t even know where to start or begin because again, no one is expecting a runoff election in January of 2026 for an election that happened back in November of 2025,” Edwards said.<\/p>\n

Early voting begins<\/a> next week, on Jan. 21, with election day set for Jan. 31.<\/p>\n

Voters will need to return to the polls again just over a month later for the March 3 primary for the next full term.<\/p>\n

Edwards and others are urging residents of the 18th District to stay informed and make sure to vote in the upcoming runoff.<\/p>\n
