{"id":521825,"date":"2026-01-17T03:10:10","date_gmt":"2026-01-17T03:10:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/521825\/"},"modified":"2026-01-17T03:10:10","modified_gmt":"2026-01-17T03:10:10","slug":"man-smashes-sculptures-in-midday-attack-at-dallas-museum-of-biblical-art","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/521825\/","title":{"rendered":"Man smashes sculptures in midday attack at Dallas Museum of Biblical Art"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">A man tried to break into the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/place\/cGVnYXN1czpwbGFjZQ-MzcyMzkw-TXpjeU16a3c\/Museum-of-Biblical-Art\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/place\/cGVnYXN1czpwbGFjZQ-MzcyMzkw-TXpjeU16a3c\/Museum-of-Biblical-Art\/\">Dallas Museum of Biblical Art<\/a> this month, smashing several sculptures in a brazen midday attack.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/topic\/dallas-police\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/topic\/dallas-police\/\">Police<\/a> said the man, identified as 34-year-old Elvis Santos, damaged pieces outside the museum near North Park Center, then attempted to break in around 1 p.m. Jan. 5, a Monday, when the museum was closed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Santos was arrested and remains in the Dallas County Jail, jail records show, facing charges of felony criminal mischief and resisting arrest, a misdemeanor. Bond is set at $11,000.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">A motive was not immediately clear, nor was a cost estimate for damages, although Dallas police said it exceeded $300,000. Notable artists with exhibited works include Andy Warhol, Marc Chagall and Michelangelo.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">In 2005, the museum was gutted by a fire caused by faulty wiring. It <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/2010\/03\/31\/five-years-after-blaze-museum-of-biblical-art-to-reopen-on-good-friday-in-dallas\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/2010\/03\/31\/five-years-after-blaze-museum-of-biblical-art-to-reopen-on-good-friday-in-dallas\/\">reopened in 2010<\/a> with expanded gallery space.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">This is not the first vandalism at a Dallas museum.
