We’ll start the weekend with dry air and strong northeast winds. Winds are expected to ramp up early in the morning west of I-45, with gusts peaking in the mid-20s and possibly hitting 30 miles per hour by the afternoon.

The red flag warning goes from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and covers most areas west of I-45—note that Harris County is not included. With relative humidity sinking to just 10 to 20 percent, even a small spark could mean a fast-moving fire. The advice is clear: use extra caution with anything that could start a fire.

From 9am to 8pm Saturday (Copyright 2026 by KPRC Click2Houston – All rights reserved.)Sunday morning – Light freeze expected for parts of the Houston area:

Sunday morning is shaping up to be the coldest part of the weekend. A light freeze for areas northwest of a line from El Campo, through Houston, and up to Liberty. If you’re southeast of that line, including The Gulf coast, temperatures are predicted to stay just above freezing, with spots like Galveston in the 40s.

Expect that cold air to linger, with highs Sunday reaching only the upper 50s.
