{"id":523445,"date":"2026-01-17T19:21:20","date_gmt":"2026-01-17T19:21:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/523445\/"},"modified":"2026-01-17T19:21:20","modified_gmt":"2026-01-17T19:21:20","slug":"yanchep-lagoon-foreshore-redevelopment-takes-major-step-forward","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/523445\/","title":{"rendered":"Yanchep Lagoon Foreshore redevelopment takes major step forward"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The long-awaited transformation of the Yanchep Lagoon foreshore has taken a major step forward, with infrastructure service upgrades given the go-ahead.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">At its last council meeting, the City of Wanneroo awarded $1.35 million in contracts for upgrades along Brazier Road, marking the commencement of tangible infrastructure works in the precinct.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The works will see essential utilities installed, paving the way for a Dome cafe at the Old Yanchep Surf Lifesaving Club to be built.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Wanneroo councillor Alex Figg, who represents the North ward, which includes Yanchep, described the project as a major milestone for the precinct.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cIt\u2019s excellent to see it progressing to a stage where we\u2019re going to see some real works on the ground,\u201d Cr Fig said during the council meeting.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cThe upgrade of the Orion Cafe was a fantastic result for the community, but this really paves the way, so to speak, for a really significant amount of work that is going to be happening in the area.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Mayor Linda Aitken also said the upgrades marked an important step in delivering the long-term vision for Yanchep Lagoon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cI was originally a councillor for up that way when we started the master plan many years ago, and we can\u2019t wait until we get the Dome open up there and we start realising what\u2019s happening once we\u2019ve got the services up there,\u201d Ms Aitken said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cWe need the infrastructure there before it can happen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The upgrades are expected to take about a year, beginning in June 2026 and due for completion by mid-2027.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">This month, the city also released the draft Yanchep Lagoon Foreshore Management Plan, now open for public feedback, which outlines further proposed developments across the precinct.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/ae9dfdead3f2cca567ffe5af2a6a89ef9028f1d7.jpg\" alt=\"Plans for the foreshore in the the draft Yanchep Lagoon Foreshore Management Plan.\" class=\"css-16r7l45-StyledImage en5ut4d0\"\/>Camera IconPlans for the foreshore in the the draft Yanchep Lagoon Foreshore Management Plan. Credit: Supplied<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The plan includes proposals for a Beach Bar at The Settlement, a Family Cafe at Fisherman\u2019s Hollow, a boardwalk linking The Settlement and Mary Lindsay Homestead, and new walkways and lookouts at Dune Park.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">It also includes plans for about 300sqm of retail space next to the existing Orion Cafe, intended for five small specialty shops, such as a delicatessen or ice cream shop.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Two conservation areas have also been proposed within the master plan, aimed at protecting \u201csensitive coastal environments\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">According to the City of Wanneroo, the foreshore plan aims \u201cto create greater opportunities for tourism, recreation, and economic growth\u201d, while \u201cstaying true to its coastal character and grounded vision\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">A city spokesperson said some of these public works could be under way later this year, pending approval.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cYanchep Lagoon is one of Perth\u2019s most treasured coastal destinations and the draft Foreshore Management Plan is about planning carefully for its future as the area continues to grow,\u201d the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cThe plan explores how the foreshore can better support community use for recreation, tourism and local business, while protecting the lagoon\u2019s character and unique natural environment for generations to come.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">As the lagoon\u2019s foreshore faces ongoing erosion, with about 2000 tonnes of sand renourishment required each year, any development in the area is planned outside the 2070 erosion vulnerability line.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Parking upgrades in the area have already been funded by the city, with detailed design and planning now under way for delivery in 2026.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Consultation on the draft Yanchep Lagoon Foreshore Management Plan is open until Sunday, February 8.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The council will then consider submissions and either endorse or amend the plan before seeking final approval from the Western Australian Planning Commission.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The long-awaited transformation of the Yanchep Lagoon foreshore has taken a major step forward, with infrastructure service upgrades&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":523446,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[2],"tags":[4740,2650,50,17354,14737,80,8632,232795],"class_list":{"0":"post-523445","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-news","8":"tag-australia","9":"tag-local-government","10":"tag-news","11":"tag-north","12":"tag-perth","13":"tag-politics","14":"tag-wa-news","15":"tag-wanneroo"},"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@us\/115912067235325606","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/523445","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/3"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=523445"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/523445\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/523446"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=523445"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=523445"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=523445"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
