As the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy celebrates its 325th anniversary, Pope Leo XIV invites his diplomats to embrace their pastoral vocation to seek paths of reconciliation in light of the Gospel.<\/p>\n

In 1701, Pope Clement XI created the institution that today bears the name \u201cPontifical Ecclesiastical Academy.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Academy trains priests to serve in the Holy See\u2019s diplomatic corps and the Secretariat of State, and its alumni include Popes Clement XIII, Leo XII, Leo XIII, Benedict XV, and Paul VI.<\/p>\n

As the Pontficial Ecclesiastical Academy celebrates its 325th anniversary, Pope Leo XIV sent a letter to the institution\u2019s community, thanking God for its long and fruitful history in service of the Pope.<\/p>\n

He recalled that many of his predecessors safeguarded the mission and growth of the Academy, so that the Holy See may always have diplomats capable of representing the Pope.<\/p>\n

Not long before his death, Pope Francis released a Chirograph entitled Il Ministero Petrino (\u201cThe Petrine Ministry\u201d), which designated it as an advanced center of higher academic formation and research in the Diplomatic Sciences.<\/p>\n

Pope Leo upheld his predecessor\u2019s confirmation of the Academy as a direct instrument of the Holy See\u2019s diplomatic action.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese most recent reforms,\u201d he said, \u201creflect the aim of offering a course of formation which, built on a solid scientific foundation, is able to integrate legal, historical, political, economic, and linguistic competencies and to unite them with the human and priestly qualities of young priests.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also thanked the Academy\u2019s superiors and students for undertaking a \u201cpath of communion and renewal in a spirit of faith and openness, welcoming changes without forgetting your roots.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pope Leo invited current students to persevere in their formation, recalling that diplomatic service is not a profession but a pastoral vocation to seek paths of reconcilication where others raise walls and sow mistrust.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur diplomacy is born of the Gospel,\u201d he said. \u201cIt is not tactics, but reasoned charity; it seeks neither winners nor losers; it builds no barriers, but restores authentic bonds.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Pope invited his diplomats to listen to God and the weak of the world before they speak with the powerful.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Pope\u2019s diplomats,\u201d he said, \u201care called to be invisible, fortified bridges that offer support when events seem difficult to contain, bridges of hope when goodness wavers.\u201d<\/p>\n

In conclusion, Pope Leo XIV invited students and alumni of the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy to imitate their patron, St. Anthony the Abbot, who he said knew how to \u201ctransform the silence of the desert into fruitful dialogue with God.\u201d<\/p>\n
