{"id":527394,"date":"2026-01-19T12:08:14","date_gmt":"2026-01-19T12:08:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/527394\/"},"modified":"2026-01-19T12:08:14","modified_gmt":"2026-01-19T12:08:14","slug":"man-injured-in-40-metre-cliff-fall-at-black-rock-in-melbournes-south","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/527394\/","title":{"rendered":"Man injured in 40 metre cliff fall at Black Rock in Melbourne&#8217;s south"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">A man is in hospital after falling about 40 metres down a cliff at a beach in Melbourne&#8217;s south.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">The 18-year-old suffered spinal, arm and leg injuries after falling onto a ledge at Half Moon Bay in Black Rock about 8:30pm on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Fire Rescue Victoria&#8217;s (FRV) high angle rescue team joined State Emergency Service crews and paramedics as they attempted to reach the man.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">FRV Senior Station Officer Tyson Scurrah said the ledge was about 5 metres above the ground, which posed a further challenge for crews trying to treat him and bring him down safely.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;We were required to go down there and set up in very difficult terrain,&#8221; he told ABC Radio Melbourne.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;It&#8217;s all sandstone so nothing too stable for us to anchor our ropes off.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">He said the teams rigged up a system that allowed paramedics to stabilise the patient and then lower him to the sand and walk him out along the beach.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"EmphasisedText_quote__TE6kn\"><p>&#8220;He&#8217;s a very lucky person.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">The rescue took about half an hour.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">The man was then transferred to hospital in a stable condition.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"People dressed in overalls and carrying torches guide a stretcher along the sand beside the water at night.\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/4c86a32fd9ea659dc7612038f17c8bd0.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">The night-time beach rescue posed a challenge for rescuers. (ABC News)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">The rescue happened on the same day a man aged in his 20s suffered serious injuries after falling from a a cliff at Mount Martha, about 50 kilometres to the south of Black Rock.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Rescue crews were called to The Pillars rock formations about 5:15pm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">He was flown to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a serious but stable condition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Just days earlier, a woman fell off a cliff in Beaumaris \u2014 a suburb neighbouring Black Rock.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">She remains in a critical condition in hospital.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">There were also <a class=\"Link_link__kR0xA Link_link__5eL5m ScreenReaderOnly_srLinkHint__OysWz Link_showVisited__C1Fea Link_showFocus__ALyv2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2025-12-27\/vic-cape-schanck-rescue\/106181672\" data-component=\"Link\" data-uri=\"coremedia:\/\/article\/106181672\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a number of similar rescues at beaches in Victoria in December<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Two peple in an inflatable boat float behind a person whose head can be seen beside a paddle board on blue water.\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/8bdff4d23370cfa45e562bb1de0450cb.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Lifesaving Victoria rescues a paddleboarder who got into difficulty at Carrum Beach on Sunday.
