LOWER MERION \u2014 During a Lower Merion Finance Committee meeting, the committee recommended the Board of Commissioners adopt a resolution authorizing payments of the annual appropriations of $402,524 to each of Lower Merion\u2019s six volunteer fire companies.<\/p>\n
Adam Szumski, Lower Merion\u2019s chief financial officer, outlined the details. <\/p>\n
\u201cThis is an annual resolution authorizing the amounts budgeted to pay to the volunteer fire companies, subject to compliance with existing memorandums of understanding between the township and the six fire companies. We also reimburse them for their workers\u2019 comp insurance premiums,\u201d Szumski said. <\/p>\n
Commissioner Scott Zelov expressed support for the township\u2019s annual support for its fire companies. <\/p>\n
\u201cThis is also something that was approved in the 2026 budget last month. It\u2019s a demonstration of the considerable contribution and commitment by this board and by the township to our volunteer fire companies, of which we have six throughout the township,\u201d Zelov said. \u201cWe are very fortunate that our volunteer, mostly volunteer, fire service protects our lives and our property, and we are generous in supporting them, and we also buy the apparatus, and we also separately make improvements when necessary to the fire houses that we do not own. The fire companies own those, but this is an important part of the demonstration of our support for our fire service.\u201d<\/p>\n
