(Photo by Chris Stone\/Times of San Diego)<\/p>\n<p>Heads up for weekend travelers \u2013 coastal rail service between San Diego and Oceanside will be suspended again Saturday and Sunday for routine maintenance and infrastructure projects.<\/p>\n<p>COASTER, Amtrak and freight trains will not operate from Oceanside Transit Center to Santa Fe Depot during the closure, with regular service set to resume before the morning commute Monday, Jan. 26, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/gonctd.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">North County Transit District<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This service interruption marks the <a href=\"https:\/\/timesofsandiego.com\/uncategorized\/2026\/01\/10\/coastal-rail-service-closed-between-san-diego-and-oceanside-this-weekend\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">second planned shutdown<\/a> this month, part of NCTD\u2019s periodic weekend closures that allow crews to safely work along the rail line. <\/p>\n<p>Work will continue on several projects, including Del Mar bluffs stabilization and the Batiquitos Lagoon double track project in Carlsbad. The next closure window is Feb. 21-22, according to NCTD.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Heads up, neighbors! <\/p>\n<p>From Jan. 24 to Jan.25, all coastal rail service will be suspended from Oceanside Transit Center to Santa Fe Depot for routine maintenance and rail infrastructure projects. <\/p>\n<p>COASTER will return to its standard schedule Monday, Jan. 26. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/57I3Zpqrov\">pic.twitter.com\/57I3Zpqrov<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 North County Transit \u2013 San Diego Railroad (@GoNCTD) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GoNCTD\/status\/2012555618150703403?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">January 17, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Alternative transportation options for passengers who normally use the COASTER include BREEZE bus Route 101 and various Metropolitan Transit System connections. Sprinter service between Oceanside and Escondido will not be impacted. <\/p>\n<p>NCTD said residents along the corridor may see test trains, construction vehicles and equipment operating on or near the tracks throughout the weekend.
