Seth Meyers has credited President Donald Trump\u2019s obsession with Greenland to a \u201cdesperate craving\u201d for trophies in a scathing late-night monologue.<\/p>\n

\u201cAmerica\u2019s been through a lot over the years, but the one thing we\u2019ve mercifully never had to deal with was a president who had a boner for winning awards,\u201d Meyers said. <\/p>\n

Trump has an ongoing obsession with winning the Nobel Peace Prize. Meyers summed up the absurdity of the situation in his opening to the segment:<\/p>\n

\u201c[Trump] threatened to invade Greenland, which is a part of Denmark, because he didn\u2019t win the Nobel Peace Prize, which he thinks is decided by Norway, which it\u2019s not,\u201d Meyers said. \u201cFor more on this, it\u2019s time for \u2018Seth Rubs His Temples and Tries to Dissociate For 15 Minutes.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

After months of complaining that he should\u2019ve won it in 2025, on Monday Trump used his supposed snub<\/a> as justification for the U.S. taking control of Greenland. <\/p>\n

As Meyers shared in his Monday \u201cCloser Look\u201d segment, Trump\u2019s letter to Norway\u2019s Prime Minister<\/a> asserted that, after losing the Nobel Prize, Trump no longer felt \u201dan obligation to think purely of peace,” and that he \u201ccan now think about what is good and proper for the United States of America.\u201d <\/p>\n

Meyers roasted Trump\u2019s \u201cdesperate craving for awards,\u201d adding, \u201c\u2018You didn\u2019t give me the Nobel Peace Prize, so now I have to invade another country\u2019 is an insane thing to say.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meyers joked, \u201cThat\u2019s like if I said to my kids, \u2018You didn\u2019t get me a World\u2019s #1 Dad coffee mug, so I\u2019m moving to Thailand to blow your inheritance, Sam Rockwell and White Lotus<\/a> style.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Meyers also made fun of Trump\u2019s line in the letter, explaining, \u201dThe world is not secure unless we have complete and total control of Greenland.”<\/p>\n

Meyers replied, \u201cI love that he\u2019s basically saying, \u2018Here\u2019s how important Greenland is. If you\u2019d given me a shiny new medal, I would have let you have it.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Meyers has been critical of the Trump administration on numerous issues.
