(Chicago Tribune)<\/p>\n<p>The Hall of Fame <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/2019\/08\/26\/ranking-the-100-best-bears-players-ever-no-11-mike-ditka\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">tight end<\/a> became a Bears legend for guiding the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/sports\/bears\/ct-photos-bears-win-super-bowl-photogallery.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">team to its only Super Bowl victory<\/a>. He was named NFL Coach of the Year in 1985 and for a second time in 1988.<\/p>\n<p>Ditka\u2019s 106 wins are the second-most in franchise history, and he led the team to seven postseason appearances in 11 seasons.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" lazyautosizes lazyload\" alt=\"Chicago experienced its coldest temperature on record minus 27 degrees on Jan. 20, 1985. (Chicago Tribune)<\/p>\n<p><strong>1985:<\/strong> The temperature hit an all-time record low in Chicago \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/chicagotribune.newspapers.com\/article\/chicago-tribune-chicago-shivers-through\/163098766\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">minus 27 degrees<\/a> at O\u2019Hare International Airport.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"XjgiotvX1H\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/2025\/12\/18\/vintage-chicago-tribune-taxi-drivers-targeted-in-1985-surprise-immigration-raids\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Vintage Chicago Tribune: Taxi drivers targeted in 1985 surprise immigration raids<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Also in 1985:<\/strong> Corporation counsel James Montgomery recommended Chicago <a href=\"https:\/\/chicagotribune.newspapers.com\/article\/chicago-tribune-immigration-official-hit\/186957488\/\" data-mrf-link=\"https:\/\/chicagotribune.newspapers.com\/article\/chicago-tribune-immigration-official-hit\/186957488\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">no longer assist the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service<\/a>\u00a0in arresting immigrants unless subpoenas were obtained.<\/p>\n<p>The city at first cooperated with immigration officials in a crackdown on immigrants living in the United States without permanent legal status who had obtained licenses to drive taxis in Chicago. (Michael Tercha\/Chicago Tribune)<\/p>\n<p><strong>2006:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/2013\/09\/04\/archive-accused-priest-was-rising-star\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Rev. Daniel McCormack<\/a>, the pastor of St. Agatha Church on West Douglas Boulevard, was <a href=\"https:\/\/chicagotribune.newspapers.com\/article\/chicago-tribune-priest-is-charged-in-sex\/163098481\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">charged<\/a> with sexually abusing three boys in his parish. McCormack <a href=\"https:\/\/chicagotribune.newspapers.com\/article\/chicago-tribune-priest-guilty-of-abuse\/163098387\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">pleaded guilty<\/a> in 2007 to sexually abusing five children and was sentenced to five years in prison.
