Born in Brazil, he grew up immersed in the rich musical and colorful traditions of that country. In addition to his native music, he was also absorbed by the edgy artistry of Buddy Guy, Mr. BIG, ACDC, Metallica, Joe Satriani, and Led Zeppelin. Gibbons<\/a>\u00a0has been branching out over the past few years to take on projects that are somewhat out of his usual safe comfort zone. Solo albums like\u00a0Perfectamundo\u00a0(Afro-Cuban),\u00a0The Big Bad Blues, and\u00a0Hardware\u00a0showcase his versatility beyond\u00a0the trio that made him famous. His current group\u00a0the BFG Band\u00a0are known for their blend of blues-rock, Gibbons\u2019 distinctive guitar tone and growling vocals, signature beard and style (often with African headwear), and extending the sound of ZZ Top into Afro-Cuban, blues, and hard rock, all with an emphasis on \u201cTone, Taste, and Tenacity.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0They\u2019re already recognized for delivering gritty, authentic rock and roll, rooted in blues but incorporating diverse global influences, showcasing Gibbons\u2019 inventive guitar work and unique sonic textures.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Where:<\/strong> Belly Up Tavern, 143 S. A San Diego native, he plays both bottleneck slide and lap steel guitar, favoring the use of severely dated axes that look to be on their last leg.\u00a0Although the multiple San Diego Music Award-winner for Best Blues cites\u00a0the acoustic music of the Mississippi Delta of the 1930s and \u201940s as his main muse, he is also a devotional student of country swing, funk, fusion, bop, and Americana. A versatile musician, she can navigate the intricate harmonies of bebop, explore the sensual rhythms of Brazilian music or flirt with the edges of more modern jazz. In addition, she is well versed in classical music, having played many classical recitals. Bell and guitarist Ron Satterfield will perform in the Rancho Bernardo Library 2nd floor community room. The program is called \u201cThe American Jazz Story,\u201d spotlighting Ellington, Miles Davis, and the Global Roots of Jazz. This concert is part of the Friends of the RB Library\u2019s 26th annual Chamber Concert series. There is no charge for the concert; however, cash donations are encouraged. Reservations are not required, but the seating capacity is controlled by fire regulations. Drawing inspiration from San Diego\u2019s surf culture, he released an acoustic EP in 2013,\u00a0One Thousand Hours, while building up his home studio and recording there with locals like\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sandiegoreader.com\/bands\/through-the-roots\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Through the Roots<\/a>\u00a0and Chris Leyva\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sandiegoreader.com\/bands\/falling-doves\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Falling Doves<\/a>. 2016 saw the release of his reggae-influenced\u00a0After the Rain\u00a0album, followed by a European tour with Falling Doves. His 2020 album\u00a0Blue\u00a0was a track-by-track recast of the same-named Weezer album.
