It\u2019s also made with AI-generated content according to a new disclosure by the developers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Heartopia is developer and publisher XD International\u2019s answer to the question, \u201cWhat if Animal Crossing was a chibi anime?\u201d It dropped on January 17 following a wave of closed betas in both November and December 2025. Concurrent players peaked at over 35,000.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Reviews have been mixed, though. It currently sits at only a 66 percent positive rating on Steam. And many of the negative responses from players on Valve\u2019s platform are taking issue with the developer not disclosing their use of AI-generated artwork in Heartopia.<\/p>\n<p> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2000661397\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Screenshot_2026-01-20_203516.jpg\" alt=\"A screenshot shows a Discord message.\" width=\"1920\" height=\"685\"  \/>Discord <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis game contains Generative AI (used to generate the puzzles), which they didn\u2019t disclose until the accusations of it surfaced,\u201d writes user <a href=\"https:\/\/steamcommunity.com\/id\/paruisfree\/recommended\/4025700\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">parupa206<\/a>. The use of AI wasn\u2019t made public until <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamingbible.com\/news\/new-cosy-animal-crossing-gen-ai-053843-20260120\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">GAMINGbible\u2019s Richard Breslin<\/a> emailed Heartopia\u2019s UK PR team earlier this week. A statement from the developer appeared on Discord not that long after.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMonetization Content in Heartopia does not include AI-generated materials,\u201d read part of the message to fans. \u201cShould any AI-assisted content be used in the game in the future, it will be announced in advance.
