{"id":532948,"date":"2026-01-21T20:29:24","date_gmt":"2026-01-21T20:29:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/532948\/"},"modified":"2026-01-21T20:29:24","modified_gmt":"2026-01-21T20:29:24","slug":"robbie-williams-on-course-to-top-the-beatles-record-with-16th-number-one-album-britpop","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/532948\/","title":{"rendered":"Robbie Williams on course to top The Beatles record with 16th Number One album &#8216;BRITPOP&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/robbie-williams\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Robbie Williams<\/a> is on course to achieve his 16th UK Number One album with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/reviews\/album\/robbie-williams-britpop-album-review-3923209\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u2018BRITPOP\u2019<\/a>, breaking a previous record set by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/the-beatles\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Beatles<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/robbie-williams-surprise-releases-long-awaited-new-album-britpop-3923563\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The pop star surprise-released his 13th solo record last Friday<\/a> (January 16), having <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/robbie-williams-britpop-album-delayed-until-2026-due-to-scheduling-issues-to-avoid-taylor-swift-3893117\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">previously postponed it from October 2025 to this February<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>During <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/robbie-williams-previews-britpop-and-plays-debut-album-in-full-at-tiny-london-gig-setlist-photos-3898225\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a tiny gig in London last autumn<\/a>, Williams confirmed that he\u2019d delayed the original release date so that \u2018BRITPOP\u2019 didn\u2019t clash with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/taylor-swift\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Taylor Swift<\/a>\u2018s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/reviews\/album\/taylor-swift-the-life-of-a-showgirl-review-3897387\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u2018The Life Of A Showgirl\u2019<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHere\u2019s the truth: I want 16 Number One albums,\u201d he told the audience. \u201cTaylor then decided to put her album out the same weekend as me. I was like, \u2018For fuck\u2019s sake!&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Now, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.officialcharts.com\/chart-news\/robbie-williams-britpop-16th-number-1-album-record-breaker\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Official Charts<\/a> is reporting that Williams is likely to clinch the top spot yet again. Should he succeed this Friday (January 23), the singer would overtake The Beatles\u2019 15 UK Number One albums.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/robbie-williams-scores-15th-number-one-album-with-better-man-soundtrack-now-equal-with-the-beatles-record-3831879\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">He tied with the Fab Four\u2019s record a year ago with the\u00a0Better Man soundtrack<\/a>, saying: \u201cWhat a huge honour it is to get my 15th UK Number One album. A special thank you to all my fans, whose support I never take for granted.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It is said that \u2018BRITPOP\u2019 is currently leading the way in the midweek chart, with Williams being ahead of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/madison-beer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Madison Beer<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/sleaford-mods\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sleaford Mods<\/a> and Nathan Evans\/SAINT PHNX.<\/p>\n<p>This week\u2019s official albums chart will be announced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.officialcharts.com\/charts\/albums-chart-update\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a> from 5:45pm on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Following Williams and The Beatles\u2019 joint record with the most UK Number One albums of all time are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/the-rolling-stones\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Rolling Stones<\/a> (14), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/taylor-swift\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Taylor Swift<\/a> (14), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/elvis-presley\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Elvis Presley<\/a> (13), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/madonna\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Madonna<\/a> (12) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/bruce-springsteen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bruce Springsteen<\/a> (12).<\/p>\n<p>Speaking about his decision to push back \u2018BRITPOP\u2019 at his London show last October \u2013 where he performed the album in full \u2013 Williams explained: \u201cI was worried about making you all fucking wait, and then I was like, \u2018Fuck it! How many times in your life do you get to have the most Number One albums the UK\u2019s ever fucking had?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Last week, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/robbie-williams-on-beating-the-beatles-record-for-number-one-albums-in-the-uk-i-want-that-more-than-anything-in-my-career-right-now-3923035\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the artist was asked about the prospect of taking The Beatles\u2019 title<\/a>. \u201cI want that more than anything in my career right now, of course I do,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet me just qualify that by saying I\u2019ve broken the matrix. When that sort of record is mentioned, and it\u2019s me, I don\u2019t know how that\u2019s happened. I just know that it has. It massively makes my imposter syndrome come out to play, and the first thing I feel is embarrassed about it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The singer will embark on a run of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/robbie-williams-announces-intimate-2026-long-90s-uk-tour-3898441\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">small UK dates next month, dubbed the \u2018Long \u201990s\u2019 tour<\/a>. The brief stint includes a stop at London\u2019s O2 Brixton Academy on February 8.<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/reviews\/album\/robbie-williams-britpop-album-review-3923209\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a three-star review of \u2018BRITPOP\u2019<\/a>, NME described the album as \u201ca love letter to the \u201990s and [a] bid to live forever\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s standing firm. Rather than neck a BuzzBall on a Lime Bike and do his take on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/reviews\/album\/charli-xcx-brat-review-lyrics-tracklist-3762875\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u2018Brat\u2019<\/a>, Robbie knows his game and has done a record for himself,\u201d it added. \u201cAn album to be remembered for? Probably not, but it\u2019s bold, it\u2019s a laugh, and he\u2019s done it his way. That\u2019s what makes him Robbie.
