{"id":533112,"date":"2026-01-21T22:10:15","date_gmt":"2026-01-21T22:10:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/533112\/"},"modified":"2026-01-21T22:10:15","modified_gmt":"2026-01-21T22:10:15","slug":"that-huge-snowstorm-sweeping-across-the-south-keeps-inching-closer-to-upstate-ny","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/533112\/","title":{"rendered":"That huge snowstorm sweeping across the South keeps inching closer to Upstate NY"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"S6ENCA3TOZDUFP7I5YVKYGSIK4\">Syracuse, N.Y. &#8212; A couple of days ago, it looked like a cross-country storm that could drop a foot of snow in places like Nashville would slide just south of Upstate New York.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"UWNC2ZLUEZD3ZFXAUG6JDDLF5M\">Not anymore.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"7Y66QRUE3NHUNPME2S6OUMQVL4\">The latest forecasts <a href=\"https:\/\/forecast.weather.gov\/product.php?site=NWS&amp;issuedby=BGM&amp;product=AFD&amp;format=CI&amp;version=1&amp;glossary=1&amp;highlight=off\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/forecast.weather.gov\/product.php?site=NWS&amp;issuedby=BGM&amp;product=AFD&amp;format=CI&amp;version=1&amp;glossary=1&amp;highlight=off\">show that the track of the storm <\/a>is likely to nudge farther north than previously expected, which could bring snow to Upstate on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"WE57BUMEWZGG3HY6QSFAQ3BWNI\">\u201cConfidence continues to increase for an impactful winter storm Sunday morning through Monday morning,\u201d the National Weather Service said. \u201cWhile there does remain uncertainty in the forecast, there are increasing chances for widespread accumulating snowfall.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"BDWD4QCNJ5GDPPIF4UP3GX6AKU\">There\u2019s a 50% chance of Central New York getting 7 inches of snow Sunday into Monday, the weather service said.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.syracuse.com\/weather\/2026\/01\/tug-hill-region-gets-a-short-break-on-wednesday-then-up-to-22-inches-of-snow-later-this-week.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.syracuse.com\/weather\/2026\/01\/tug-hill-region-gets-a-short-break-on-wednesday-then-up-to-22-inches-of-snow-later-this-week.html\"> Some lake effect snow<\/a> could be drawn in as the storm pulls away Monday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"VJ6KCFSA2BH23METRASLMT3MYY\">Earlier forecasts had indicated that the strong high pressure system that will bring bitterly cold temperatures this week would keep the snow at bay. But that area of high pressure, known as a ridge, now looks like it will start drifting north, allowing the snow from the south to slide in behind it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"F3X64MB4ZJAK5EYQTE5SGJXICA\">Snow and freezing rain are possible from Arizona to the Northeast.
