Three metro areas in Upstate New York were among the top 100 nationwide for growth in new listings of homes for sale in December.<\/p>\n

Jamestown ranked 35th with growth in new listings of 25%, when compared with the previous year. Binghamton was 64th at 17.65% and Poughkeepsie was 84th at 14.81%.<\/p>\n

Those three metros were the only three in the state to see new listings increase in December, according to data from Redfin, a national real estate brokerage. New listings declined in 10 other metros with data available and at least 50 new listings.<\/p>\n

Listings were down 3.51% in Buffalo, 5% in Utica, 11.74% in Syracuse, 14.94% in Rochester and 17.06% in Albany.<\/p>\n

For the purposes of this list, everything north of Westchester and Rockland counties was considered Upstate New York. The numbers cover new listings of single-family homes.<\/p>\n

The real estate market in much of Upstate New York has been challenging for buyers in recent years.<\/p>\n

A low number of homes on the market has led to intense competition. Prices have been rising steadily.<\/p>\n

Realtors have said there are some signs things may be improving for buyers<\/a>.<\/p>\n
