CINCINNATI (WXIX) – The Ohio Department of Transportation is out with a warning concerning graffiti that is showing up on interstate overpasses and concrete walls.<\/p>\n
When driving on any interstate, you are sure to see what some call a blight on public property.<\/p>\n
So-called graffiti artists, usually during the dead of night, use highway overpasses and retaining walls as their palette.<\/p>\n
Municipalities and the Ohio Department of Transportation say they do their best to keep up with following behind to clean it up.<\/p>\n
ODOT says it\u2019s costing taxpayers money that can be used on other things, not to mention how illegal it is to deface public property.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s an eyesore,\u201d Kathleen Fuller, ODOT public information officer, said. \u201cIt\u2019s a nuisance and it\u2019s something that people shouldn\u2019t do and we are spending money and resources to remove and readicate the problem.\u201d<\/p>\n
FOX19 NOW legal analyst Mike Allen says if you are caught spray painting messages on overpasses or retaining walls, you could be charged with vandalism or criminal damaging that could rise to the level of a felony offense.<\/p>\n
If convicted, someone could pay some pretty hefty fines and be sentenced to up to one year in jail.<\/p>\n
