Stephen Colbert called Donald Trump\u2019s billion-dollar entry fee for his Board of Peace \u201ca little steep,\u201d noting his employer CBS got to \u201cobey\u201d the president for just $16 million.<\/p>\n

During the monologue for Thursday\u2019s broadcast of \u201cThe Late Show,\u201d the comedian weighed in on Trump\u2019s new Board of Peace, which he launched at the World Economic Forum in\u00a0Davos, Switzerland<\/a>\u00a0as a way to oversee reconstruction in\u00a0Gaza.<\/p>\n

However, as Colbert pointed out, Trump\u2019s mission for the new organization noticeably overlapped with what the United Nations has been doing for the last 80-plus years.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy, you may ask, is this even happening? Good question, me,\u201d Colbert said. \u201cEspecially because the Board of Peace\u2019s mission would overlap with the United Nations\u2019 aim of maintaining international peace and security. So, Trump is literally just doing model UN.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cThat shouldn\u2019t cost a billion dollars. It should be $400 for a weekend at the Bethesda Marriott, where you French kiss Luxembourg and none of your friends at school ever believe you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Before moving on, Colbert took aim at CBS, stating, \u201cNow, admittedly, the idea of paying a billion dollars to obey Donald Trump seems a little steep. After all, CBS got to do it for just 16 million.\u201d<\/p>\n

This isn\u2019t the first time Colbert has made a dig at CBS, who canceled \u201cThe Late Show\u201d<\/a> after settling a lawsuit with Trump for $16 million<\/a> over a \u201c60 Minutes\u201d edit. While CBS defended that the decision to end \u201cThe Late Show\u201d in May 2026 was purely a financial one, it came about after Colbert notably criticized CBS\u2019 then-parent company, Paramount Global, over the settlement.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
