It has been rescheduled for Saturday, January 24 at 8 p.m. ET \/ 5 p.m. PT,\u201d the streamer said in a statement. \u201cSafety remains our top priority, and we appreciate your understanding.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2026\/tv\/news\/alex-honnold-skyscraper-netflix-what-if-he-falls-1236638942\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">In a story posted earlier today by Variety<\/a>, Plimsoll Prods. Ltd. CEO Grant Mansfield, Plimsoll head of adventure James Smith and Netflix unscripted VP Jeff Gaspin addressed the possibility of postponement due to weather.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe January date for the climb was chosen because it\u2019s dry season in Taiwan right now \u2014 although rain was still possible, and the forecast was calling for a chance of moisture the morning Honnold starts his climb. Rain was expected right as \u201cSkyscraper Live\u201d was expected to kick off at 9 a.m. local time. So far, the forecast for tomorrow calls for conditions to be \u201csunny and pleasant\u201d in Taipei, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.accuweather.com\/en\/tw\/taipei-city\/315078\/weather-tomorrow\/315078\" target=\"_blank\">according to Accuweather<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cIf it is deemed too wet, if there\u2019s too much moisture on the building, we will probably delay to the next day, which would be a Saturday night transmission in the U.S.,\u201d Smith had told Variety. \u201cWe could even delay another day if we needed to. Obviously Alex has to be 100% comfortable and happy in himself and in the conditions. And then our safety team likewise have to.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tGaspin had compared the live telecast window to \u201claunching a space shuttle. We\u2019ll be on site for a few days after if, for some reason he doesn\u2019t go on that day,\u201d he said. \u201cBut after that, it\u2019s probably a bigger reschedule. There\u2019s only certain times of year you can actually climb the tower because it\u2019s rainy season between April and September.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tSaid Mansfield: \u201cHe won\u2019t be on that building unless we\u2019re all comfortable. But there\u2019s been a huge amount of planning for this. He said he\u2019s the fittest he\u2019s ever been. He\u2019s really been training for this. We\u2019ve gone to Taipei in the dry season, but there\u2019s always a risk of a bit of rain. It\u2019s a live event and anything can happen, and we can\u2019t control the weather.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/alex-honnold\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Honnold<\/a> has become a well-known rock climber noted for his daring \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/free-solo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">free solo<\/a>\u201d feats of ascending cliffs without the help of any ropes or safety equipment. He was the subject of the Oscar-winning doc \u201cFree Solo,\u201d which chronicled his climb of El Capitan\u2019s 3,000-foot \u201cFreerider\u201d route in Yosemite National Park.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe 2-hour \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/skyscraper-live\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Skyscraper Live<\/a>\u201d will follow Honnold as he attempts to free solo the Taipei 101, a 101-story skyscraper that is the 11th tallest building in the world (and the tallest in Taiwan) at 1,667 feet. Plimsoll Prods. Limited, a part of ITV Studios, is producing the special.\u00a0Al Berman is showrunner and executive producer of \u201cSkyscraper Live,\u201d while Honnold, Grant Mansfield, James Smith, Alan Eyres and Jonathan Retseck are also EPs.
