{"id":53856,"date":"2025-07-10T10:20:14","date_gmt":"2025-07-10T10:20:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/53856\/"},"modified":"2025-07-10T10:20:14","modified_gmt":"2025-07-10T10:20:14","slug":"nyc-jewish-pols-urged-to-join-jews-for-zohran-mamdani-and-back-israel-bashing-nominee-for-mayor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/53856\/","title":{"rendered":"NYC Jewish pols urged to join &#8216;Jews for Zohran&#8217; Mamdani and back Israel-bashing nominee for mayor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A coalition of Jewish leaders is pushing other Jewish Democrats in office to <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/08\/us-news\/zohran-mamdani-won-most-votes-of-a-candidate-nyc-primary-history\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">get behind socialist Zohran Mamdani for mayor<\/a> \u2014 hoping to cash in on their fears of being primaried by similarly Democratic Socialists of America-backed candidates next year if they don\u2019t rally around their party\u2019s Israel-bashing nominee, sources said. <\/p>\n<p>The \u201cJews for Zohran\u201d offensive to win over Jewish pols includes Mamdani\u2019s top Jewish surrogates \u2014 city Comptroller Brad Lander and Rep. Jerrold Nadler, sources told The Post.<\/p>\n<p>One lawmaker \u2014 who requested anonymity \u2014 confirmed getting an invite for a Jewish leaders\u2019 meeting with Mamdani.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cJews for Zohran\u201d offensive includes Brad Lander and Jerrold Nadler. X \/ @beth_avedon<\/p>\n<p>A source briefed on the matter said the meeting is tentatively scheduled for Monday morning at a union hall.<\/p>\n<p>Lander, the city comptroller who came in third in the mayoral primary, has been Mamdani\u2019s biggest booster in the Jewish community. As a rival mayoral candidate, Lander<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/06\/13\/us-news\/zohran-mamdani-and-brad-lander-cross-endorse-each-other-in-nyc-mayoral-race\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> cross-endorsed<\/a> him in the ranked-choice primary.<\/p>\n<p>Nadler, the dean of the New York House delegation first elected to the House in 1992 and who represents much of Manhattan, endorsed Mamdani after he won the primary.<\/p>\n<p>Still, a Mamdani endorsement is a tough decision for some Jewish pols, with many constituents still upset that the Democratic nominee has not denounced the rallying cry <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/06\/19\/us-news\/nyc-mayoral-wannabe-mamdani-keeps-struggling-to-defend-globalize-the-intifada-rallying-cry-as-even-cross-endorser-lander-piles-on\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cglobalize the intifada.\u201d<\/a> Mamdani also supports the boycott, divestment and sanctions movement against Israel.<\/p>\n<p>Mamdani has the backing of city comptroller Brad Lander. Stephen Yang<\/p>\n<p>Yet, they are being pressured from the left flank to back Mamdani, who would become the city\u2019s first Muslim and South Asian mayor if he wins the general election in November. He <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/06\/25\/us-news\/zohran-mamdanis-surprise-victory-came-from-lefty-nyc-neighborhoods-and-a-far-broader-coalition-of-voters-expected-for-a-socialist\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">soundly defeated ex-Gov. Andrew Cuomo in the primary<\/a> 56% to 44% by relentlessly focusing on pocketbook issues.<\/p>\n<p>Lawmakers are reportedly concerned that Mamdani\u2019s DSA allies \u2014 the backbone of his campaign \u2014 will back primary challengers against them if they don\u2019t support the Democratic nominee.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re waving the white flag,\u201d one Jewish activist fumed. \u201cThey\u2019re petrified.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nadler endorsed Mamdani after he won the Democratic primary. X \/ @beth_avedon<\/p>\n<p>Former city Councilman Rory Lancman, a Jew who previously served as a vice chairman of the state Democratic Party, urged his fellow Jewish Dems to reject the calls to get behind Mamdani. <\/p>\n<p> \u201cIf ever there was a time to put principle over party, this is it,\u201d Lancman said.<\/p>\n<p>Many moderate and Jewish lawmakers have yet to warm up to the socialist nominee.<\/p>\n<p>New York Mayoral Candidate Zohran Mamdani speaks during a press conference at the United Federation of Teachers (UFT) headquarters on July 9, 2025 in New York City. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>State Democratic Party chairman Jay Jacobs, a Jew who is also the Nassau Democratic leader and a close ally of Gov. Kathy Hochul, hasn\u2019t commented on Mamdani\u2019s primary victory.<\/p>\n<p>Senate Democratic Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, a Brooklynite and the highest-ranking Jew in Congress, congratulated Mamdani but has yet to endorse him. Neither has Rep.
