PHOENIX (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 The deadly shooting involving ICE in Minneapolis<\/a> is sparking protests across the country, including Arizona. <\/p>\n

Hundreds of people gathered Saturday night at Civic Space Park in Phoenix in response to an ICE agent shooting and killing 37-year-old Alex Pretti in Minneapolis. <\/p>\n

\u201cAnd what it\u2019s really going to take is us as a people organizing, uniting and coming together,\u201d Lexsiri Coronado, a protest organizer, said. <\/p>\n

Protesters held signs demanding to abolish ICE.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust talking to every single person of any age, any race, they have an understanding that what ICE is doing is too much,\u201d protester Juan Vega Mejia said.<\/p>\n

The Department of Homeland Security says the man had a handgun and violently resisted when agents tried to disarm him. Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz says videos show the opposite and are nothing but \u201cnonsense and lies.\u201d<\/p>\n

In Minneapolis, police also issued a reminder to protesters.<\/p>\n

\u201cI recognize that this is a volatile and emotional situation, and our focus remains as it always has been \u2014 on de-escalation, slowing things down,\u201d Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O\u2019Hara said.<\/p>\n

Back at home, Rep. Andy Biggs posted on X: \u201cTim Walz and Jacob Frey have blood on their hands. Nobody wants to see injuries or fatalities\u2014of citizens or law enforcement. That means citizens can\u2019t run over law enforcement with their vehicles or pull a gun on them. Walz and Frey must get control of Minneapolis.\u201d<\/p>\n

For some demonstrating, they say there\u2019s no option when it comes to this cause.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m willing to take that sacrifice now so that generations in the future don\u2019t have to experience that same pain,\u201d Coronado said.<\/p>\n

Others worry Phoenix could be next. \u201cIt doesn\u2019t matter where we\u2019re at, because it could happen to any of us,\u201d Vega Mejia said.<\/p>\n

Gov. Katie Hobbs has not said if federal agents will be coming to Arizona.<\/p>\n
