{"id":541343,"date":"2026-01-25T08:00:25","date_gmt":"2026-01-25T08:00:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/541343\/"},"modified":"2026-01-25T08:00:25","modified_gmt":"2026-01-25T08:00:25","slug":"cliburn-launches-conductor-competition-in-rival-texas-city","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/541343\/","title":{"rendered":"Cliburn launches conductor competition in rival Texas city"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra&#8217;s wide-ranging 2026-27 season opens with a Cliburn winner, closes with video game music, and features everything from a cello concerto world premiere to the music of Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton in between.<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t say there&#8217;s not something for everyone at the symphony.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am thrilled by the high standards of our performances, our rapidly developing reputation for artistic innovation, and the generosity of our patrons,&#8221; says FWSO board chairman Mercedes T. Bass in a release. &#8220;I know that the 2026-2027 season will be one of our most exhilarating ever.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Highlights will include:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"ee-ul\">\n<li>2025 Cliburn Gold Medalist Aristo Sham opens the symphonic season with Mozart\u2019s Piano Concerto No. 23 under the direction of FWSO music director Robert Spano.<\/li>\n<li>Jane Glover conducts Britten\u2019s Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings with tenor Ian Bostridge and FWSO Principal Horn Gerry Wood, plus Beethoven\u2019s Symphony No. 6 paired with Kimbell Art Museum landscapes.<\/li>\n<li>Bruce Wood Dance Dallas returns to perform Mahler\u2019s Songs of a Wayfarer with mezzo-soprano Kelley O\u2019Connor.<\/li>\n<li>The world premiere of a cello concerto by Christopher Theofanidis, performed by FWSO principal cello Allan Steele and conducted by Spano.<\/li>\n<li>The annual gala stars mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato, conducted by Jane Glover.<\/li>\n<li>The Chamber Music series at the Kimbell Art Museum features Spano at the piano, a work he composed, FWSO musicians, and guest pianist Peter Tak\u00e1cs.<\/li>\n<li>The popular \u201cStars of the Symphony\u201d performances showcase FWSO musicians as soloists.<\/li>\n<li>Pops and Specials include live-to-film concerts (Hook, Batman, The Wizard of Oz), video game music programs, and the return of Pink Martini.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Excluded from the release was any mention of a summer series.
