File illustration \/ Haley Walton<\/a><\/p>\nDallas-Fort Worth residents can expect steady cold temperatures and a chance of rain showers this week, with winter precipitation to be gone by Tuesday. <\/p>\n
Brennen Darrah, National Weather Service meteorologist, said the cold weather is being caused by an arctic air mass from Canada, which advanced much further south than normal. <\/p>\n
\u201cEvery year, we usually get at least one winter storm like this. However, the surface temperatures, so our overnight lows, are very cold for us,\u201d Darrah said. \u201cDFW\u2019s record low prior to this was 12 degrees, and we’re getting down probably into the upper single digits tonight. \u201d <\/p>\n
As the storm settles, residents can expect a return to normalcy on Tuesday. He said the snow and sleet that have already fallen is most likely all that DFW will see. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe’re going to stay below freezing for a few days, but we wouldn’t expect the roads to clear up anytime soon,\u201d Darrah said. \u201cThe first day of meaningful improvements to travel is Tuesday, that’s the first day we’re going to get above freezing.\u201d <\/p>\n
However, the cold temperatures are expected to stick around for a bit, he said. The week will start with highs below freezing, but will eventually rise to the 40s. <\/p>\n
\u201cFortunately, the winter precipitation, that’s going to end after today,\u201d Darrah said. <\/p>\n

Mostly cloudy with a low around 28 at night.<\/p>\nFriday:<\/strong> Mostly cloudy with a high near 37 during the day.
