Caitlin O\u2019Connor and her fianc\u00e9 Joe Manganiello<\/a> are done with Los Angeles.<\/p>\n

The TV host confirmed to\u00a0People magazine<\/a>\u00a0in December that she and the actor had left the city after calling it home for more than 20 years and moved back to Pittsburgh, where they both grew up. The outlet reported that the newly engaged couple had relocated to Mt. Lebanon, a suburb of the western Pennsylvania city.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe crime in Los Angeles <\/a>is at an all-time high,\u201d the 36-year-old told Fox News Digital. \u201cWe were thinking about it for a long time, and the right house happened to come up. We went to look at it in Pittsburgh, and it was perfect for us.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAlso, LA is no longer the entertainment capital of the world,\u201d she shared. \u201cActors do not audition there anymore. Many casting directors don\u2019t have offices there anymore.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cFor the most part, everything is on Zoom. A lot of premieres happen in New York. There are studios being built in New Jersey, and things are moving overseas. Many projects are being filmed overseas, even by professionals who\u00a0have worked in LA on set\u00a0their whole lives. The industry has moved. It\u2019s no longer there.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI think after COVID\u00a0and the strikes [in Hollywood], things have evolved, things have changed,\u201d she noted. \u201cYou can really work from anywhere, and you can travel to wherever you\u2019re filming from your home base. That\u2019s why we decided to switch it up and have our home base be in Pittsburgh.\u201d<\/p>\n

O\u2019Connor said the move wasn\u2019t just about putting down roots in a safer community she and Manganiello are proud to call home \u2014 it was also about giving back. She noted that the couple is prioritizing support for\u00a0UPMC Children\u2019s Hospital of Pittsburgh, a cause close to Manganiello\u2019s heart.<\/p>\n

According to the hospital, the 49-year-old\u2019s relationship with the institution dates back to 2011, when he hosted an event tied to the season finale of HBO\u2019s \u201cTrue Blood,\u201d donating 100% of the proceeds and making multiple visits to young patients over the years.<\/p>\n

In 2015, he served as the honorary chair of the foundation\u2019s 125th anniversary gala, celebrating its status as one of the nation\u2019s leading pediatric hospitals. He now serves on the hospital\u2019s board of trustees and continues to help raise funds for critical programs.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen we first met, we went to visit the kids at the hospital,\u201d O\u2019Connor beamed. \u201cIt was an amazing experience. And I had gotten involved with their telethon, which helped families who were in need.\u201d<\/p>\n

O\u2019Connor said they decided to relocate because of high crime in Los Angeles. Hollywood To You \/ BACKGRID<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re never turned away at Pittsburgh Children\u2019s if you can\u2019t afford care,\u201d she continued. \u201cJoe also raised $200,000 on his\u00a0episode of \u2018Wheel of Fortune\u2019\u00a0in 2025. But for us, it\u2019s always been about supporting the kids. It\u2019s been amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n

O\u2019Connor said\u00a0the telethon\u00a0helped her realize she wanted to build her life around the people of Pittsburgh, not the industry world of Hollywood.<\/p>\n

\u201cPittsburgh is full of kind, generous, hardworking people,\u201d she said. \u201cWhen I sat on the phone lines, I spoke with so many people who wanted to give anything that they had to help the children here. That was a really heartwarming experience. I cried through the whole thing. Callers didn\u2019t know it. I had tears in my eyes.\u201d<\/p>\n

For O\u2019Connor,\u00a0the pull of Pennsylvania\u00a0has always felt personal. She was born in Los Angeles but raised in Uniontown. While she went on to study at UCLA and pursue a career in showbiz, home never left her mind.<\/p>\n

\u201cI loved growing up here,\u201d she said. \u201cIt felt really magical. It was a really beautiful place to grow up. I am a fifth-generation Uniontown native, and it\u2019s been wonderful carrying on the traditions of my family. I always wanted to keep a home here, and I\u2019m proud to be from here.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cMy grandparents were heavily involved in raising me, and it felt like living in a postcard. That has always stayed with me. When you grow up, you don\u2019t really have anything to compare it to. You just think everything is normal. But it\u2019s truly a beautiful place to grow up.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen Joe and I first connected, our first conversation was about how our high schools used to face each other for football and basketball, even though we\u2019re 12 years apart,\u201d she laughed. \u201cJoe grew up here in Mt. Lebanon and Uniontown is just about an hour away. But Mt. Lebanon is truly one of the most beautiful cities in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI also grew up in my grandmother\u2019s home, and her brother\u00a0suffered from polio\u00a0all his life,\u201d she said quietly. \u201cHe was very, very sick as a child. He was deeply affected all his life. I learned very early what it meant to find support for a sick child and the need for research.\u201d<\/p>\n

O\u2019Connor admitted she\u2019ll miss her friends in Los Angeles but said she\u2019s excited to begin a new chapter \u2014 and eager to experience real winters again.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur first night here, we woke up to the season\u2019s\u00a0first snow,\u201d she gushed. \u201cIt was beautiful, but Joe had to go out and shovel snow. We didn\u2019t have a snowblower yet. That was actually my Christmas gift to him. But he was out there for two and a half hours. I fell more in love with him, seeing him out there for almost three hours shoveling snow.\u201d<\/p>\n

But not everyone is impressed.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur dog, Bubbles, does not like the cold,\u201d said O\u2019Connor. \u201cShe is adjusting very slowly. She won\u2019t tell us when she has to go outside. She\u2019s just perfectly content staying inside. She\u2019s a\u00a0California girl.\u201d<\/p>\n

While O\u2019Connor and Manganiello still travel to Los Angeles and New York City for work, Pittsburgh is home \u2014 and that isn\u2019t changing.<\/p>\n

\u201cPittsburgh is the perfect place to start fresh,\u201d she said. \u201cAll of our neighbors are so nice, generous and helpful. In a big city, you don\u2019t have that kind of community that we have here.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou don\u2019t have to be in a big city to accomplish your work and follow your dreams,\u201d O\u2019Connor stressed. \u201cAnd your dreams don\u2019t have to be necessarily chased in a hustle environment or a big city anymore. You have to do what makes you happy.
