NEW YORK (WABC) — Snow continues to pile up across New York City and the Tri-State area into Sunday evening as one of the biggest snowstorm in years pummels the region.<\/p>\n

As of 5 p.m. Sunday, New York City reported 8.8 inches of snow in Central Park while JFK Airport reported 8.3 inches, LaGuardia Airport reached 9 inches and Newark Airport had 9.8 inches.<\/p>\n

On the higher end, Bridgeport, Connecticut, reported 13 inches and Islip, Long Island, reported 11.2 inches.<\/p>\n

Local and state leaders are urging residents to stay off the roads whenever possible. Officials say limiting travel will allow crews to clear streets and sidewalks more efficiently and help keep emergency routes open.<\/p>\n

New York City public schools will be remote-only for students on Monday. Many area districts have closed their schools. Check the growing list at our school closings page<\/a>.<\/p>\n
