LA QUINTA, Calif. \u2014 Tom Hoge shot 2-under 70 during final-round play at The American Express tournament on Sunday to finish tied for eighth place in the PGA Tour event at the Pete Dye Stadium Course.<\/p>\n
Hoge finished the four-day tournament with a 21-under 267. The Fargo South graduate entered Sunday’s final round tied for sixth place at 19-under, three strokes back of then-leader Si Woo Kim. <\/p>\n
Kim finished the tournament tied for sixth after a final-round par-72 to keep him at 22-under. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler shot a 6-under 66 Sunday to finish the tournament with a 27-under 261. Scheffler entered Sunday just one stroke off the lead. <\/p>\n
Three birdies through 12 holes put Hoge at 22-under for the tournament and 3-under for the round Sunday before a double bogey on the par-3 hole No. 13. Hoge salvaged the mishap with birdies on holes 15 and 16, but finished the round with a bogey on the par-4 18th. <\/p>\n
Hoge earned $250,700 for his performance at the American Express. Scheffler took home $1,656,000 for his first-place effort. The tournament purse was set at $9.2 million.<\/p>\n
Jason Day, Ryan Gerard, Andrew Putnam and Matt McCarty all finished tied for second behind Scheffler with four-round totals of 265.<\/p>\n
