\u201cChicago Fire\u201d<\/a> star Dermot Mulroney is taking a hiatus from the NBC procedural.<\/p>\n

Mulroney, who plays Battalion Chief Dominick \u201cDom\u201d Pascal, won\u2019t appear in the latter part of season 14, Deadline<\/a> reported. Mulroney\u2019s last appearance before his break will be episode 14, which is set to air in February. According to Deadline, Mulroney may return toward the end of the season. <\/p>\n

A new character will join the cast during Mulroney\u2019s absence. Rob Morgan plays Battalion Chief Hopkins, who is haunted by his experience overseeing Chicago firehouses and quickly establishes his authority at Firehouse 51. Morgan\u2019s first appearance will be during episode 16. <\/p>\n

Mulroney made his \u201cChicago Fire\u201d debut in 2024, at the start of season 13. His character replaced Wallace Boden (Eamonn Walker) as Battalion Chief. It took time for the firehouse crew to adapt to Pascal\u2019s leadership style after years with Boden, who was a father figure to many of them.<\/p>\n

As for Mulroney, he felt at home with his \u201cChicago Fire\u201d costars from the start.<\/p>\n

\u201cI literally joined a family there in Firehouse 51,\u201d the actor said during a December 2025 panel hosted by People<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s an incredible group of people, and we know deep into their past, these characters. So me even joining this cast, to see actors that have played that same part for 12 years, to see how they drop into their character, it was something I\u2019d never witnessed.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a very different feel there,\u201d Mulroney continued. \u201cIt\u2019s so seamless and just a brilliant group of actors who\u2019ve lived in the skin of their characters longer than I\u2019ve ever encountered in my work.\u201d<\/p>\n

In addition to Mulroney, \u201cChicago Fire\u201d stars Taylor Kinney (Kelly Severide), David Eigenberg (Christopher Herrmann), Christian Stolte (Randall \u201cMouch\u201d McHolland), Joe Minoso (Joe Cruz), Miranda Rae Mayo (Stella Kidd), Hanako Greensmith (Violet Mikami), Jocelyn Hudon (Lizzie Novak) and Brandon Larracuente (Sal Vazquez). <\/p>\n

The first series of the \u201cChicago\u201d franchise, \u201cChicago Fire\u201d premiered in 2012. The franchise also includes \u201cChicago Med,\u201d \u201cChicago P.D.\u201d and \u201cChicago Justice.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cChicago Fire\u201d airs on NBC Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET.
