Jennifer Grey is about to have the time of her life \u2014 again.<\/p>\n

Lionsgate confirmed Tuesday that Grey, 65, is reprising her role as Frances \u201cBaby\u201d Houseman in the upcoming \u201cDirty Dancing\u201d sequel, which she\u2019s also executive producing.<\/p>\n

The follow-up to the beloved 1987 movie is being produced by \u201cHunger Games\u201d\u00a0and\u00a0\u201cCrazy Rich Asians\u201d\u00a0producers Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson. \u201cDying for Sex\u201d<\/a> showrunner Kim Rosenstock is writing the script.<\/p>\n

Jonathan Levine will also executive produce the project, but he\u2019s no longer directing it as originally planned.<\/p>\n

Grey starred in the original \u201cDirty Dancing\u201d alongside the late Patrick Swayze, who died of pancreatic cancer <\/a>at age 57 in 2009.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe role of Baby has held a very deep and meaningful place in my heart, as it has in the hearts of so many fans over the years,\u201d the actress said in a statement<\/a> after her casting news was confirmed.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve long wondered where we might find Baby years later and what her life might be like, but it\u2019s taken time to assemble the kind of people that I felt could be entrusted to build on the legacy of the original film\u2026 and I\u2019m excited to say that It looks like the wait will soon be over!\u201d Grey added. <\/p>\n

Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson said, \u201c\u2018Dirty Dancing\u2019\u00a0remains as beloved today as it was upon its initial release, and we knew that a very special group of people would have to come together for fans to embrace a return to Kellerman\u2019s. We are beyond thrilled to announce we have assembled the perfect team to carry this film forward in partnership with Jennifer Grey.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jacobson, in her own statement, said, \u201c\u2018Dirty Dancing\u2019\u00a0is that rare film that is as emotional, exhilarating and rebellious today as it was the year it was released. To be able to work with Jennifer Grey and Lionsgate on the sequel is a genuine joy for Brad and me. We feel so fortunate to have been invited back to Kellerman\u2019s for one more dance.\u201d<\/p>\n

Production on the sequel is set to begin later this year, according to Lionsgate.<\/p>\n

Directed by Emile Ardolino, \u201cDirty Dancing\u201d follows teenager Frances \u201cBaby\u201d Houseman (Grey) who falls in love with dance instructor Johnny Castle (Swayze) on a family vacation to the Catskills in 1963.<\/p>\n

Grey received a Golden Globe nomination for her role in the film.<\/p>\n

Last year, Grey told People<\/a> that the sequel will not try to recapture the chemistry she had with Swayze.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll I can say is there is no replacing anyone who\u2019s passed\u2014you never try to repeat anything that\u2019s magic like that,\u201d she shared. \u201cYou just go for something different.\u201d<\/p>\n
