Americans call out the state\u2019s silly mascot bans<\/a>, you know progressives have lost their way.<\/p>\n<p>The Native American Guardian Association last week called barring indigenous school mascots \u201cthe dumbest law of all time\u201d and vowed to take its case against the state Board of Regents all the way to the US Supreme Court.<\/p>\n<p>NAGA believes identities like <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/04\/23\/opinion\/the-history-erasing-doe-should-let-the-massapequa-chiefs-keep-their-name\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cthe Massapequa Chiefs\u201d <\/a>promote respect for Native American culture and values: You don\u2019t name your team for something you hold in contempt.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tGet opinions and commentary from our up!\n\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>And of course the town itself is named for a Native tribe.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike the Regents and their minions at the State Education Department, the vast majority of Americans think \u201ccultural appropriation\u201d is appreciation.<\/p>\n<p>NAGA\u2019s lawyer, Chap Petersen, calls the ban \u201cracially discriminatory\u201d and notes the \u201cSupreme Court has been so solid on this idea that there is no concept of good discrimination.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\tMore From\t\t\t\t\t\t\tPost Editorial Board<\/p>\n<p>Even the federal judge who nixed NAGA\u2019s bid for a preliminary injunction against the ban saw that it \u201cmay have serious constitutional defects,\u201d including abridging \u201cthe First Amendment free speech rights of Massapequa School Board members and District employees.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Regents are as out of touch on this one as they are in mandating that girls\u2019 sports teams accept boys.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, the Regents these days are <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/08\/14\/opinion\/the-state-education-department-hates-letting-the-public-learn-from-test-results\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrong about everything<\/a> \u2014 embracing <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/11\/16\/opinion\/board-of-regents-mandates-climate-curricula-as-ny-kids-still-struggle-with-math-and-reading\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">one anti-education<\/a> policy <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/10\/21\/opinion\/ny-state-educrats-go-to-war-against-math-quizzes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">after another<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s hope a harsh slapdown from the high court on the mascot ban will snap them out of all their perverse ways.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"When
