The sale is north of $12 million, according to sources familiar with the terms of the deal. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tWilde reteamed with Megan Ellison\u2019s Annapurna on the project, the studio that made her directorial debut, \u201cBooksmart.\u201d UTA Independent Film Group and FilmNation co-repped the sale.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tWilde pushed for a traditional theatrical release for \u201cThe Invite,\u201d which she directed and co-stars in with Seth Rogen, Penelope Cruz and Edward Norton. The hilarious ensemble comedy plays out during a dinner party between a couple who are going through a rough patch and their upstairs neighbors, who turn out to be swingers. Rashida Jones and Will McCormack wrote the screenplay, a remake of the Spanish film \u201cThe People Upstairs.\u201d CAA reps Wilde and Cruz. UTA reps Rogen, Norton and McCormack and Jones. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tSo far, it\u2019s been a slow sales market out of the festival\u2019s final hurrah in Park City. (Sundance heads to Boulder in 2027). Neon is closing a sale for the conversion therapy thriller \u201cLeviticus\u201d for a price tag that\u2019s reportedly in the seven-figure range. \u201cWicker,\u201d a fantasy comedy with Olivia Colman, Peter Dinklage and Alexander Skarsgard, as well as the harrowing drama \u201cJosephine\u201d starring Channing Tatum and Gemma Chan, have also been drawing interest from buyers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cThe Invite\u201d is Wilde\u2019s third directorial effort \u2014 she also helmed 2019\u2019s \u201cBooksmart\u201d and 2023\u2019s \u201cDon\u2019t Worry Darling\u201d \u2014 and her second film at this year\u2019s festival. She was also at Sundance with director Gregg Araki\u2019s \u201cI Want Your Sex,\u201d an erotic thriller in which she co-stars with Cooper Hoffman.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tVariety\u2019s\u00a0chief film critic Owen Gleiberman <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2026\/film\/reviews\/the-invite-review-olivia-wilde-seth-rogen-1236640161\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2026\/film\/reviews\/the-invite-review-olivia-wilde-seth-rogen-1236640161\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">praised \u201cThe Invite\u201d<\/a> as a \u201cbravura dinner-party dramedy\u201d that \u201ckeeps you laughing and never stops surprising.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"After an old-fashion, multi-day bidding war, Olivia Wilde\u2018s Sundance darling \u201cThe Invite\u201d has sold to A24.
