Two people died after being pulled from a burning home late Monday night on South San Dario on San Antonio\u2019s west side, officials said.<\/p>\n
SAN ANTONIO \u2014 Two people have died after a house fire late Monday night on San Antonio\u2019s west side.<\/p>\n
San Antonio firefighters were called to the 400 block of South San Dario near West Commerce Street around 10:49 p.m. after reports of a structure fire.<\/p>\n
According to a battalion chief with the San Antonio Fire Department, crews arrived to find heavy fire coming from a single-story home with a metal roof, surrounded by an iron fence and burglar bars, obstacles that made rescue efforts more difficult.<\/p>\n
Fire officials said a woman who called 911 became trapped inside a closet after being separated from her husband. Firefighters were able to pull her from the side of the home. Her husband was rescued from the back of the house.<\/p>\n
Police said both were rushed to a local hospital but later died. Family members confirmed the couple as Juan Hinojosa and 75-year-old Guillermina Pinelo-Hinojosa. The medical examiner confirmed Pinelo-Hinojosa\u2019s identity.<\/p>\n
Based on the extent of the damage visible from outside, the battalion chief said the home is believed to be a total loss.<\/p>\n
