PHOENIX (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 Phoenix City Council voted against a project to extend the light rail to the State Capitol and will instead refocus the plan to the West Valley.<\/p>\n
The focus is now on plans for Valley Metro to extend the light rail along Indian School Road in west Phoenix. <\/p>\n
The City and Valley Metro say community engagement will be next, making sure to hear from residents and business owners along the corridor.<\/p>\n
City Council and Valley Metro say they will now coordinate with the Federal Transit Administration to get funding to move forward on the project.<\/p>\n
Council member Ann O\u2019Brien said in a statement: \u201cThe action reflects a commitment to fiscal responsibility, community priorities, and continued investment in economic development.\u201d<\/p>\n
