The actions of the 42-year-old activist invigorated the movement for equality and played a crucial role in desegregating public transit.<\/p>\n<p>In honor of Rosa Parks\u2019 birthday, and all she stood for, <a href=\"https:\/\/gonctd.com\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/gonctd.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">North County Transit <\/a>\u2013 San Diego Railroad (NCTD) is joining other public transportation agencies around the country in recognizing Feb. 4, 2026, as \u201cTransit Equity Day\u201d by offering free rides.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRosa Parks\u2019 courage was integral to advancing the fight for Civil Rights in our country,\u201d said NCTD Chief Executive Officer Shawn M. The quest by a civil rights pioneer to have her arrest record wiped clean after nearly 70 years after she protested racial segregation has raised the possibility of similar bids to clear the names of Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King Jr., whose convictions remain on the books in Alabama&#8217;s capital. In 2026, NCTD marks its fourth year participating in Transit Equity Day.<\/p>\n<p>Riders can use all NCTD modes \u2013 COASTER, SPRINTER, BREEZE, FLEX, NCTD+ and LIFT \u2013 free of charge for the entire day on Feb. 4.
