The aquarium has long supported conservation efforts across the Pacific Ocean.<\/p>\n<p><b>New sea turtle rescue: <\/b>A new rehabilitation tank will allow the public to view green sea turtles rescued from L.A. County and beyond. The aquarium is one of two facilities in Southern California with the capacity to do such rehab for these turtles (the other being SeaWorld). Much of this work has been done out of the public\u2019s view. She is missing her right front flipper. \" data-image-size=\"articleImage\" width=\"960\" height=\"720\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/1769673675_585_.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>This green sea turtle, nicknamed Porkchop, had to have her flipper amputated after being rescued by aquarium staff from a tangle of fishing line in the San Gabriel River.<\/p>\n<p><b>Porkchop, turtle ambassador:<\/b> The aquarium\u2019s first ambassador is an endearing three-flippered turtle that staff dubbed <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/laist.com\/news\/climate-environment\/porkchop-green-sea-turtle-aquarium-of-the-pacific-conservation\" data-cms-ai=\"0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Porkchop <\/a>(for her hefty appetite). She was rescued from the San Gabriel River last March after <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aquariumofpacific.org\/conservation\/sea_turtle_monitoring?_gl=1*zp15no*_gcl_au*MTUwODEwMjA3My4xNzY3NzM1MDg4\" target=\"_blank\" data-cms-ai=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">volunteers<\/a> spotted her tangled in fishing line and caught on debris.
