{"id":551299,"date":"2026-01-29T10:04:20","date_gmt":"2026-01-29T10:04:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/551299\/"},"modified":"2026-01-29T10:04:20","modified_gmt":"2026-01-29T10:04:20","slug":"foul-trouble-doesnt-stop-lauren-betts-from-leading-ucla-women-to-14th-straight-win","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/551299\/","title":{"rendered":"Foul trouble doesn&#8217;t stop Lauren Betts from leading UCLA women to 14th straight win"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>CHAMPAIGN, Ill.\u00a0\u2014\u00a0Lauren Betts overcame early foul trouble to score 23 points and pull down nine rebounds, leading No. 2 <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/sports\/ucla\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">UCLA<\/a> to <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/womens-college-basketball\/boxscore\/_\/gameId\/401825303\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">an 80-67 win<\/a> Wednesday night over Illinois.<\/p>\n<p>Betts, the Bruins\u2019 6-foot-7 AP All-American center, picked up her second and third fouls \u2014 the latter on a technical foul \u2014 with 1:29 left in the first quarter.<\/p>\n<p>She sat out the rest of the first quarter and the second quarter, returned to the court after halftime, and ended up playing nearly 24 minutes. She had just six points at halftime.<\/p>\n<p>Angela Dugalic scored 12 points for UCLA (<a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/womens-college-basketball\/standings\/_\/group\/7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">20-1, 10-0 Big Ten<\/a>), which won its 14th straight. Gabriela Jaquez had 11, and Kiki Rice, Gianna Kneepkens and Sienna Betts \u2014 Lauren\u2019s sister \u2014 each added 10.<\/p>\n<p>Cearah Parchment had a career-high 26 points and seven rebounds for Illinois (15-6, 5-5) before fouling out with 36 seconds left. She was 10 of 13 from the field.<\/p>\n<p>Destiny Jackson had 15 points and six assists, Maddie Webber scored 12 points and Berry Wallace had 11 for the Illini.<\/p>\n<p>Illinois, which played without injured Gretchen Dolan, has lost five of seven after an 11-game winning streak.<\/p>\n<p>UCLA led 45-31 at halftime. Illinois cut the lead to five points twice in the third quarter, but didn\u2019t get any closer.<\/p>\n<p>The Bruins won despite making just one three-pointer, going one of 10 from distance.
